Come rest ye merry gentlemen
on: December 24, 2018, 11:05:44
Hi there fellow kitcheners,
here https://soundcloud.com/oorlab/come-rest-ye-merry-gentlemen-vondelkoor a new homerecorded version of the age/old carol.
Instead of the more common God rest ye etc, I chose the more logical Come rest...
I tried to aim for a bit of a surfrock sound, but may be this version is too slow for that.

What I like about the melody of `Come rest ye merry gentlemen`, as well as the melody of "Entre le bœuf et l'âne gris" ("Between the Ox and the Grey Ass") is that you can somehow hear they are quite old and not written by anyone in particular but sort of ear-wormed their way across generations of troubadours :-) - that's how I like to imagine it.

This is a cool reimagining of the carol @oorlab - a timeless sound, like a medieval village choir backed by a folk rock band :pompom: :pompom:
The voices (your family & friends?) are good- a bit far back in the mix I thought.

Nice! I like @robertkc 's image of a medieval village choir.

@oorlab
If this has anything to do with the ouder- en vrienden koor/RSCollege, then we’re members of the same club. Imagine that!

And even if this is purely coincidence, it’s a wonderful ‘find’ to amalgam voices and music this way.
Very christmassy in spirit.

Like it Very much.
Kind regards, Gus

@LePlongeur  - Hey Gus - no, this is a group of singers from the school of my children - we kept the tradition of doing something around christmas. RSCollege - mij onbekend. Maar natuurlijk leuk om daarvan volgend jaar ook mensen te betrekken bij een nieuwe opname van een kerstlied.

Rudolf Steiner college. Sorry. It would have been better if I had written it out, instead of using the abridged  name.
Has a lot to do with the Steiner/Waldorf movement. It’s not really important of course.
But it made me curious.
I bet a lot of work went into aligning the choir with the music.
With a great result. I hope everyone is proud of it.
Kind regards, Gus
