Crystal Clear...Leonard Scaper and Chris Spruit
on: February 15, 2019, 13:26:42
This is a collaboration with @Chris Spruit . Chris did the piano track and the song arrangement and Leonard Scaper wrote the lyrics.

Crystal Clear
https://soundcloud.com/leonardscaper/crystal-clear-with-chris-spruit

Out across the ocean
Or somewhere very near
Destiny awaits us
And it's crystal clear

When that moment comes
I'll be by your side
We'll sail together
On a rising tide

Let me guide you
let me help you see
'Cause I know what's inside you
Let me set it free

CHORUS
And we'll sail on
Homeward
Together
Yes we'll sail on
Homeward
Together

BRIDGE
Sail on home
Sail on home

Time is just a notion
Change is what you fear
The lessons of the future
Will be crystal clear

And when they finally come
It will be from inside
And we'll change together
With truth as our guide

In the new world that finds us
We will finally see
The sun on the horizon
Will set us free

INSTRUMENTAL

CHORUS

"The main thing is to have a gutsy approach....but use your head." Julia Child

 "In a world of robotic conformity, the only originality left in music is the imperfections" Eric Craptone

"Special thanks to Steve Gleason for making me who I am today." Leonard Scaper

ok  ;D ;D ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb:: crystal clear  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::
@Leonard Scaper and @Chris Spruit

beautiful song, i have a small issue about how the vocals are mixed, how chris vocal comes in the first time, the relative volumes of the vocals. The sounds of the vocals (mixwise) in my opinion could be more connected, more following up on each other.... volumewise and also fx-wise in my ears

on first listening  :P :P :P :P ::) ::) ::)

(but look who is talking  :-\ :-X :-X :-X :-X)

I appreciate that @Dutchbeat . Chris has such a strong voice and I have....a very Lenny voice.....it's a wonderful mixing challenge for me. That's why I need to hear some Kitchen opinions.....like yours.

 :) :) :)

I liked the vocals @Leonard Scaper  & @Chris Spruit - mixwise.... but may be there already was a fix and I heard a different version from @Dutchbeat ?.
Songwise regarding the piano, very nice. reminded me of Billy Joel in the general feel.
If you are still developing this, I would add some drums in the chorus, and in the Bridge have the piano play longer single chords... instead of the more arpeggiated  figures... or some acoustic guitars. May be you like to listen to this Dutch band called the Cats with One Way Wind to get a taste of the 'Paling Sound'

Hey @oorlab ....thanks for listening and for your detailed critique. The version you listened to was the original but I have just put up a remix. I messed with the vocals a bit but it's a subtle thing. I have to be honest and say that I have loved that bridge as it is from the start, Chris plays that part with power and so much feeling. To me, it is a classic strong bridge.

We did talk about drums but neither of us is really a drummer so.........  :)

That tune by The Cats is really cool. Listening to that again right now as I type.

Yes, I think I understand what @Dutchbeat is aiming at. You two make a somewhat uneasy combination, vocally. @Leonard Scaper 's voice sounds very good, it is perfect for a song like this. So, my dear Leonard, don't you ever dare say that you cannot sing anymore. If you ever do that again, I will cram you into a jam jar, put the lid on, and let you scream all sorts of other non-sense things at the seagulls. And I will then watch you from a distance, telling everybody I've a raving madman shouting from my kitchen shelf, and smile.

Will that convince you?  :yes:

Nevertheless, I think that @Chris Spruit 's voice could be slightly more foregrounded, so that it connects a bit better. She can sing very well, nothing new there, so I think this must be solved in the mix.

@Pleudoniem ..........got me smiling.......please...not the jar!!!!

I have put up another mix with Chris up a bit more......as I look back perhaps we should have started with her in the first verse rather than me to give her voice the "lead".  Hmmmmmm....

I truly appreciate the assistance with this one.

Is this fun......or what?

Hi Everybody involved,
Just reading all of this.
I think Leonard, it is as we have discussed it before.  I recorded my vocals for backing vocals, as I thought you are doing the lead  and me just the third voice in the back.
So to make it sound as close as your vocal I have to record the verses again  using the laid back singing style and less distance mic position. And that will Def. Solve the problem. Your skills are top notch but you can't do much better here. So I will redo these parts. OK?? And please do not change the arrangement regarding me starting, it is good as it is. Thanks everybody for your comments and good suggestions. I think that is what the kitchen is famous for  ::smiley:: ::smiley::

I love this place.

This collaborative process is SUCH a great way to improve. I get to hob-nob with seriously talented folks like @Chris Spruit .....so my game gets a little better. And we all get to watch the sausage being made.   ;D

@Leonard Scaper
You have to be a little patient. I am having a bit of a busy time. But promise to try to get it done soon.  Isn't it fun?
Looking forward to it. Keep cooking.
Chris

Beautiful song and precious collaboration between you @Leonard Scaper and @Chris Spruit

It is always nice to listen to songs that speak of hope, trust, mutual support, discovery, inner journey ...

The only thing, under my particular point of view, if the Chris voice had been more whispered, more intimate ... to be more akin to yours?

Apart from everything, very nice song
