Dalliance (Magic Words challenge)
on: May 02, 2019, 23:59:28
Threw in quite a large amount of ingredients in this stew
https://soundcloud.com/oorlab/dalliance
 - may be I overdid it, but the magic words from @DonMar kept me keeping on...

Willow willow, my talisman,
radiating in reverie.
I was standing at the door
of a distant past.

Sublime, sublime, subliminal -
through the portal
you extended a ripple in time,
unto myself I was my nemesis!

Charm me some more
with your elixir.
Delight me with a rendezvous,
with epiphany instead of solitude.

dazzled by the petrichor,
strung to a summery horizon,
radiant you are
luminous blue variable

@oorlab A haunting atmosphere, echoing a past that keeps singing back to you. very good!

It is also a great achievement that you managed to make sense of the set of words you had at your disposal. That is difficult enough as it is.

This is lovely, @oorlab. I love that percussion. You conjured up extra layers of sense out of all the words/expressions you used, presenting  a viable storyline. Nicely done.  :) Pleasing vocals as well, and a pretty melody.

I really like the atmosphere you create. It really all starts with that cool percussion. This is a wonderfully luscious mix.

Nice backing vocals....excellent vocal all around. I alwasy love how you place your vocals in your mixes. I'm really liking that electric guitar tone and all the other cool instrumentation. Just a really fine presentation. This would make a great extra long jam track.

You definitely got the magic words in there as well.

You've got something here . @oorlab ... a definite groove that is pleasing.
I'm not sure if the distorted guitar fits a in a way as it seems to break the mood when it comes in.
I think the cleaner guitar works, the chorus guitar is nice for example, and maybe some more swirly soft synth sounds might work better perhaps ?

I wonder if all these 'magic words' are just too potent to use in excess. Despite that it seems to hang together well.

Good Job and I reckon you could push this further if you wanted.

P.S. Trust Lenny to like the guitar tone I wasn't so sure about. Different ears, different takes on things .... I love this place ;-)

There is a tribal atmosphere thanks to the percussion.
Voices and modern instruments sound like in the background so as not to take away the protagonism of the ancestral percussion.
It also has a Deja Vu fragrance that makes it very pleasant to listen to.
In short, I think it's a good job  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

@Marcus Nalgaber  - yes - tribal. This track started with wanting to get a groove looped around conga-ish sounds. "Deja Vu fragrance" - that looks interesting. Do you mean the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young album?

@MrBouzouki - thanks for the feedback. I just uploaded a mix without distorted guitar and vocals ,  to bandcamp - free download, so if someone wants to try something - be my guest.

I like to play the 'mean guitar', but I can be harsh on the ears,. I'll admit...

@Leonard Scaper , @Pleudoniem  @DonMar  - cheers - thanks for stopping by! The magic of the words worked well. Once I had the line
"through the portal you extended a ripple in time, " - I sort of had a scifi / timetravelling image.

@oorlab No  I was referring to a special feeling that I feel with some music when I listen to them
It is a psychological sensation absolutely united with the imagination
It is the same as the visualization that our brain does when it is reading a good book

Love that creeping/haunting guitar at the beginning. The song really builds into a decent reggae vibe. Some nice little touches in the production as well. You've fit in a fair few of the words out of the challenge too.

Like the tune @oorlab ... dunno exactly what it is genre-wise, but I really like the vibe and feel that it has.  ::headphone::

As someone said, there is a movie kind of feel to the song, and personally I have difficulty writing this type of music where there is no clear edge between the parts and it's very fluent (i.e. no specific transitions between the verses and choruses...).

Kind of reminds me of an how engine's just spinning, so it's a pleasuarable tune this particular engine has :-)

Greatly done and also how you included the lyrics and magic words, didn't think much about that part, mostly focusing on the music, so they must have fit perfectly ;-)

Best of luck to you in this Challenge, I'm certain your contribution will do well  :ok:

I love the intro ... And the later appearance of the gimmick.

It has an exotic, unusual style, the percussion is important in this track, it is what dresses the story with mystery.

The melody of the song is very catchy and fits perfectly with the base. Good job @oorlab  ::thumb::
