DANCING IN THE LIGHT!
on: February 02, 2015, 07:34:10
Hi fellow kitchners :) Here's a fun little reggae love song, that's been on the back burner for a while...just had to finish tweaking it, although I still continue to tweak
as I get feedback. I need to redo the trumpet part, but can't get to right now :) I hope you enjoy  ;D ;D

https://soundcloud.com/crystalsuzy/dancing-in-the-light

Dancing in the light, cause my baby?s eyes keep shining on me
Dancing in the light, cause my baby?s eyes keep shining on me
When my life is getting me down, my baby is picking me up
When there?s darkness all around, my baby is lighting it up
Cause we don?t sweat the little stuff so our life is OK
No we don?t sweat the little stuff so we make it through the day

Dancing in the light, cause my baby?s eyes keep shining on me
Dancing in the light, cause my baby?s eyes keep shining on me
We can sing and dance all day and well into the night
We know how to work and play, ya we can do it right
Cause we don?t sweat the little stuff so our life is OK
No we don?t sweat the little stuff so we make it through the day

Without my baby my life would be
Like a fish without an ocean, or forest without a tree
Like a ghost without a haunt, or land without the sea
Like a song without a singer, or honey without sweet

Dancing in the light, cause my baby?s eyes keep shining on me
Dancing in the light, cause my baby?s eyes keep shining on me
Our love is like a lava lamp, bubbling up with bliss
Bouncing off each other and touching with a kiss
Cause we don?t sweat the little stuff so our life is OK
No we don?t sweat the little stuff so we make it through the day

Dancing in the light, cause my baby?s eyes keep shining on me
Dancing in the light, cause my baby?s eyes keep shining on me....

              Hi Suze
The  tweaks you've made are   noticeable  on this I would like the male voice balanced a little lower in the mix
& yours up a bit. :) I thought trumpets were fine.  For reggae  Its mostly about the drums n bass  I would run  the drum n bass  track alone  until  its  solid & punchy  & then  bring the other stuff in...... (I found the bass is getting lost a bit).
I think.. this is a very good track & I  cant fault it in an overall way  everything is good & just to get that ooomph or
punch  would be great..  reminds me of  old school  reggae.                     Very nice!     Stylus :)

wow! that is very cool!!!!

very relaxed and a very complex arrangment, trumpets are great!!!

nice and catchy!!! ah that last part, what a party!

i agree with Stylus that the male vocals are a bit loud at certain parts and your voice is a bit low in volume at some parts
me, myself, and Pie

thanks for listening DB and Stylus   :) and thanks for the feedback :) it's funny you should mention the bass and drums Stylus, because that's what

I thought I'd brought up in the mix, but obviously not enough  :P for some reason I have a hard time hearing the bass and where it sits in the mix, but

I've brought it and the drums up even more  and I've tried to remix the vocals as well...let me know if it's any better  :) :)

Of course I know nothing about mastering, so how it sounds to me and how it sounds to you, may be totally different  ::) I always listen on headphones

Also, I have know idea what I'm doing at the beast of times, recording or production wise, or in my life for that matter  :) :)

Its  definately  better!   I can live with this.  Bass I think should be  'felt  &  along with levels its the actual tone recorded initially. so try get the best possible sound in the beginning.:)  So bass  rounded & yet cutting through solid, The drums on your track slightly lack some treble  & if you get the bass & drums near to sounding great you have achieved the backbone of a track. The rest  falls into place with vocals being key.  Well done   suzy   I'm proud  :)
I also dont have any idea what I'm doing  but lately I am looking at  mixing stuff together  more than ever before....I dont even master ! ;D  I just record do a basic mix  hear it  then sling it out & on to the next one. :)

Thanks Stylus :) the bass and drums were done on a midi keyboard, so it's not like the real thing...it's kind of hard to find just the right tone for either :)
I originally had a lower more rounded tone for the bass, but someone mentioned that it just sounded like low rumbling  :P

Anyway, I'm glad it's sounding a little better to you...after working on a song for hours it all sounds the same and I can't hear anything anymore ::) ::)

I don't attempt to master either, but I think learning to mix a song, is important, so good for you :) I can't wait to hear your efforts  :)

"then sling it out & on to the next one"...you sound like a short order cook!  ;D ;D

Hey sooooz this is a much fatter sound than when I first heard it. Any fatter and you'ld have to put the song on a diet!

You may not know what you are doing but by golly its working so dont learn anything new just keep working in the dark like the rest of us.

Thanks Alan ;D Yes I have fattened it up...I hope it's not bordering on obese now ??? I've actually lowered the bass

And yes I agree, we're all working in the dark, but some have learned more skills to negative better :)

but thanks for your vote of confidence on my stumbling...in the dark  ;D ;D

Stylus...I've changed the tone of the bass again...someone thought the other one sounded too twangy  ;D

Very relaxed feeling.Like it a lot.May it is cool if you place a instrumental bridge in let me say the middle of the song to make a brake.Without it's a bit monotone for me.
Well done.
