After being cheered on by @Leonard Scaper  I wanted to get this early drafting of what I've done so far with a track adding to an instrumental track from my keyboard playing friend Dave Zeitlin ( Dee - Zee ). He often does Progressive Rock orientated tracks but this one he describes as Chamber Prog.

He told me he thought it was more orchestral that his normal more rock orientated ones, so after I got an idea of some lyrics to go to with his instrumental I thought I should add some strings.

I added some of my favourite Con Sordino (with the mute) strings and brought out a little pattern I heard of his using Spiccato shorts .

Since it's Prog and I wanted to reinforce the bottom end , especially in the opening, I found a patch in Halion 6 called "Super Taurus" so it adds a  nice 'Proggy' bottom end.

I thought people might be interested in the process so I've posted it up very early in case anybody wanted to see how this develops.

It's only the Intro and part of the first verse and nothing has been balanced properly yet. Early Days ;-)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bit below is copied from a post in the Kitchen Cafe

After hearing and reposting his instrumental  track 'Deep Blue' yesterday, it got me playing around with vocal melodies and ideas with a potential Sci-Fi / Climate Collapse story collaboration about how the last of the human race has ben forced by global warming to retreat under the sea, in bases using hydroponic farming and similar technologies, as the surface is too hostile to live on.

Anyway this is what I've got so far. I renamed it Deep and Blue because of the metre. It's a bit heavy, not in sound but in topic ;-)

Deep and Blue - P Goodrich 22nd Jan 2020

Down we go, in the water
In the Deep ... and Blue
Nothing left above us
The world, we knew, is through
Cities lost, beneath the waves,
On a rising tide of fear

First we lost the ice-caps
Then we lost, the bees
Then we had the food wars
As the people tried to flee
A lack of trust, as the world unwound
and the global climate changed

Then there were wars, terrible wars
No-one could win, as our castles caved in
The die had been cast, as we fought to the last
Almost no-one was saved, as we sank through the waves

So here we are, survivors
In the Deep ... and Blue
Itís a pitiful existence
But what else could, we do
Theyíll be time to weep and a time, to morn
All the things we left behind
Like Atlantis lost, beneath the waves
As the world above us burns

So we go Down, Down, Down, Down
Down, Down, In the Deep ... and Blue
"Love and Life is all about connections"

@MrBouzouki
I think I know what a chamber pot is, but I have no idea what I must expect when chamber prog comes around.

I will check out what that means. Iím never too old to learn, right?

If you have the time to experiment with a heavier bass, that would be my suggestion. Unless itís a foolís errand chamber prog-wise.

Like the con sordino bit a lot. A very nice start!
Youíve made me curious!
Kind regards, Gus

Good start @MrBouzouki .....I like it when you go big like this. Nice dynamic change at around 0:46.

It reminds me of a musical score in the background of a dramatic moment of one of the older final fantasy games on super nintendo...

Well Gus @LePlongeur ... you genius suggestion has got me adding another under-layer of bass for a truly cinematic feel now.

I found a patch in Halion called "Drive Shaft" that fitted the sonic bill. It's sort of doubling the Taurus Bass line except for a bit of rudimentary counterpoint in places. It adds a more dynamic feel to the overall shape.

Since I wanted to chart how this track developed it case it helps or inspires anybody this is a mix with just my added bits and Dave's synth and piano lines muted.

https://soundcloud.com/mrbouzouki/deep-and-blue-just-my-bits-mix/s-TSBiA

There is a degree of automation in place but it's not even at a Static Mix stage yet, however, I feel it's starting to get some drama into it.

So cheers Gus you led me down the right way of thinking with this one.  ;D ;D ;D

P.S. Dave suggested it might be Chamber Prog but I feel it's more Symphonic Prog now.

Thank you @MrBouzouki, you led me down the right way of thinking with every one. So all the pleasure is all mine.
Kind regards, Gus

Modify your pos5

Now that I had a chance to listen:
Yes, MrB., this is what I sort of had in mind. Only the tiniest little bit over the top.
You lost me a little bit with the technicalities. Please remember that I work with equipment that is in line with my age. Pizzicato without bass for contrasts? If I am outta line with what youíve dreamed up, just ignore me.
I like very much how this is developing.
Keep on doing what your doing or some such crap.
Kind regards, Gus

Well I'm further down the rabbit hole today and it's perhaps a bit closer to what I have in my head.

I replaced the earlier Halion patch with a Halion  Strings patch and played low (so essentially Cello).

I  added some 8ve strings to add some weight doubling the Taurus line. This gives the Taurus kick and then its supported by these low strings.

I added an Albion patch called Nasty Brass on those swells to giver a bit of grit to them.

So this is a sort of first stab static mix  of the first part.

Listened here in the studio on my best headphones. I think it needs some ballast   ;)  .......some weight in the low end.

A bit further on ...

I've added some choir, more strings, brought out Dee Zee's bass and piano in sections and add some extra synth lines.
Only the last bit of the song to sort out then I can have a proper tweak at it and have a go at adding the Vox.  Then we will see what shape it's in.

May I ask @MrBouzouki what it is you are waiting for? Sorry if this come out as a rude remark. You know that I donít intend it to be rude.
If you wait for Godís hand on the small of your back to nudge you along? Watch the news. Heís busy.

Nice bass, choir and piano. Some beautiful singing as cherry on the pie and itís finished. My opinion, but what do I know?
Seems like the hearts system is shut off......
To quote a 100.000 lyrics
Iíll be waiting
Anticipating

Ha Ha Gus @LePlongeur , I never think of you are rude, we just live at different paces musically.   ;D ;D ;D

I like taking time to try and refine stuff, and learn a bit as I go. I think this could end up quite a strong one,  especially due to Dee Zee's idea and playing, so I want to take my time. I think I am even more fussy when other people music is involved.

I am busy too, despite now being 60, doing more house redecorating and stuff and doing choir singing. We have a Broadway theme for this season's choir music and I've been busy rehearsing Anthem from Chess to see if I can get  solo spot in one of our choir performances. Competition is very keen and there are many good potential soloists so it's no easy. I'm no Tommy KŲrberg but I'll give it my best shot.

Difference in musical pace is not the only difference my friend.I
Musical musically. I am more interested in his daughter, @MrBouzouki .
She 10 years old now and will be a beautiful 19 when I may need some one to push my wheelchair. And lifeís too beautiful to have some old t*rt pushing it.

I listened to your track and I promise to try and be more patient.
Great project this one.
Patient or not, I am still curious!
Kind regards, Gus

@MrBouzouki The intended lyric has a Day of Judgment type of atmosphere that I've heard appearing ever more often lately. I am guessing that one of the reasons may be worries about the environment and current social and political distrust. The first sounds reminded me a bit of War of the Worlds. @oorlab also did something in that mood in his Lockdown. Is this really a sign of the times? Is this just a figment of my imagination?

The song itself should be worked out to an epos. I like it very much so far, it would be a pity to abandon it here and leave it as short as it is.
