Demo of new song - Bible Belt
on: October 10, 2013, 17:45:37

This is a song inspired by my road trip to Tennessee last year. It's real Bible belt country - a white painted wooden church on every corner each with huge car parks that are full every Sunday but empty every other day. I wanted to write about how the facade of small town rural America looks great but underneath there is still all the cheating and small mindedness going on underneath. It's about disillusionment and betrayal. I'd really appreciate an honest opinion on what (if anything) works and is the chorus strong enough (I've been told it isn't). Any ideas on improvement would be great.

Thing is, I recorded this live yesterday in one go into my portable Tascam and I think I've really caught the essence of it and I don't think I can repeat the vocals - I'm really happy with the careworn sound of them. I so want to just keep this and maybe just put a little percussion or organ on it to finish it but I think it's maybe too rough....Heeelp!

Thanks people

Hi Alan,

great lyrics put on music!!!! and yes, organ would be a good way forward, but a very nice tune and song on a topic that can use some (critical) reflections

Good morning Alan ,

Love the lyrics my friend and it's an ace progression

If I was in charge I would speed it up a little , get an organ on there as you say - some simple strings would lift the chorus as well

Yes I think it could be fuller arrangement wise - everyone is going bare - but this should sound like a real 4/5 piece band - not 65 tracks or anything - just a simple band   ;D

Lovely , lovely song mate - this had the potential to be your best  ;D

Hi Monty,

I do like it when people write songs that deflate the "holier than thou" religious bubble. Loving the lyrics.
I don't think the chorus is bad, but it does seem to blend in with the verses. This may just be because the song is a fairly relentless strum. Could try adding some sarcastic backing vocals - "Praise the Lord" or some such.
I agree with Kafla - a fuller arrangement will let this song blossom.

Nice one,

hey Alan

an amazing song, and some really great lyrics well written and thought out
for me with the song, and it is just my opinion mate

I think at the end of each verse you should not draw the line out
it should be the same as the other three lines, I hope you know what I mean

but this is incredible lovely feel to it as well,

             great stuff Alan,                     tony.
