Disco Lights
on: May 27, 2022, 09:17:49
Here a new song for myever evolving disco album (recipe, a danceable beat and lyrics with not too much meaning but tailored to the beat)

https://soundcloud.com/oorlab/disco-lights

many thanks to @Pleudoniem for making the video. His video-editing wizardry is only matched by @Mora Amaro La Loba  I think.

Disco Lights

Take your disco lights
Out tonight
Send your laserbeam
into the sky

Lord I'm lonely
But the beat will guide me
back to the place
where we can be together

Unbox your dancing shoes
don't tie them too loose
Emoji, gives me a sign
that all is still fine?

Here comes the disco king
watch him do his thing
like a chachacha
before the camera

There 's a tendency
in the tinder scene
that if you dance alone
you get stuck in the zone

But I don't mind
as long as I can find
a disco light
shining through.

Hola @oorlab
Very good work, I liked everything, the atmosphere is really great too. I think it's your best song to date.

Hello Oorlab,

before I listened to the track I thought oh back to the 80s.
Then when I played it I was surprised. The first thing I thought then oh - jazz feeling, a little soul feeling or all together somehow. So Disco Jazz Soul. But it all fits together somehow conclusively. Nice interesting piece. I like it.  :praise:

However, the vocals don't come to the fore enough for me and the music pushes itself too far into the foreground. Is that intentional?

Oh yes - great video  :ok:

Charly

@Charlys-Music  - thanks - for a next mix I can up the vocals a bit. I'm preparing a bunch of jazz-tinged disco tunes for bandcamp. This is nr 10.
Still 1 to go.
@Mora Amaro La Loba  - many thanks, also on behalf of @Pleudoniem

Love it love it LOVE IT! @oorlab  and @Charlys-Music genre mashup is on the mark.

Very professional and entertaining production in all ways  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

Full disclosure… I really dislike Disco… nothing against the genre (except for ruining a decade of music) and I’ve heard some really great Disco on occasion…. It’s just that so much of it is so banal… and the musical exploration and explosion of creativity leading up to it was SO GREAT! I still don’t understand how disco even happened 🤷‍♂️

I’m almost over it 😎

@1roomstudio  - thanks for the feedback. Also a disclosure from my part - back when disco first was popular it also wasn't my cup of tea. Agreed about its banality. Somehow these days a little sillyness and banality seems to push my songwriting button. It is nice to explore a genre. I may do a  batch of  Surf songs next :-)
For my 'Research' I looked at this list
https://www.discomusic.com/best-disco-songs-lists/top-500-disco-songs-chart-second-revised-edition-2002 a top 500 of disco songs with their BPM's. Some surprising fast tracks like Knock On Wood - Ami Stewart (140 BPM) , and also some slow ones like Don't Stop the Music - Yarbrough and Peoples (98 BPM).

Ha ! . . . never thought I'd have nostalgic feelings for Disco music, but you've captured that period so perfectly . . . well, let's just say you had me doing some cerebral dancing, since I hung up my actual dancing shoes many years ago ! Lots of fun I did have as a listener, and the video is very cool to watch along as well. Mix wise, I also would like the vocals up a bit . . . but then, disco was never really deep on the poetic and lyrics . . . so it kind of works as is.
