don't let them see you cry
on: March 03, 2019, 19:43:00
I wrote this many moons ago after coming out of a difficult phase.
Looking back I tried to say the words I needed to hear.
Originally the song was picked on acoustic guitar and it was so difficult to play that shelved it.

I rearranged this for cubase and very recently I put my vocals on it.
The song has been with me for about nine years from this date.

Feedback would be appreciated.

And the words ~

Don't Let Them See You Cry

If you feel the same I'll come around
To catch some tv or to paint the town
And in a while you will feel better
Some people don't watch what they say
N they make a list of all your mistakes
Like they're the only things that matter

Welcome to the world of modern thought
I pay top dollar just to hear you talk
Life is love and war, come and give it a try
There will be casualties on both sides

Don't ever let them see you cry
Don't let them see you cry. Boo hoo

You know you're wanted you are the first
No less than the entire universe
There is no equal under heaven
So where's the harm if you're alright
And you still have some appetite
And for a smile you'll be forgiven, child

Hanging about like a chandelier
The light refracted in your crystal tears
There's a dark cloud gathering over your sky
I've a roof on my house if you mean to stay dry

Don't ever let them see you cry
Don't let them see you cry. Boo hoo

Welcome to the world of modern thought
I'm writing checks that I can't afford
If you need a hand I'll be glad to oblige
A stiff upper lip with a skip in my side

Don't ever let them see you cry
Don't let them see you cry. Boo hoo

Here you are a new @Rightly  ... How many do you have?

I loved the introduction, very much, the sound is particular, of film, full of atmosphere and descriptive sound-color.
The lyrics ... Good advice that when we apply it, it works. The human in writing is something that always catches the eyes.

I found the whole mix slightly unnerving.  The lyrics are great  and the whole thing puts me in mind of David Byrne with a bit of Bowie.  That is to take nothing away form its originality and I very much look forward to hearing more of your music!  I would love to hear the acoustic guitar version!

I agree with @DavidHutton ...this mix is definitely unnerving. It demands attention and commitment for one to really listen fully. I suspect that is exactly what you were going for with this one, Rightly. I have listened twice.

As usual, your lyrics are....a trip. Seriously.

unnerving is Good, sometimes I'll go for background or easy listening. Here I went for unnerving.
I'ts actually an unusual song for me in various ways.
Originally I was trying to reach a dark place and communicate with some poor soul who would be too insensitive to a more common approach.
yeah both white, neurotic Davids (and a host of others) have at some point been influential in my music making.

I'll upload the early acoustic demo of the song next week, if I can get my PayPal up n running.
I'll send you a PM when the song is available.

I'm glad you liked the song. Thanks for taking the time.

Rightly.
