@Leonard Scaper You're always so kind and complementary.
@M57 also caught the bad production here, which I can really only attribute to my general ignorance when I recorded it (2012).  I cleaned it up as much as I could working with the old Mp3. One thing that's interesting for me about this project is tracking not only the evolution of musical ideas, but also how the production techniques start in complete ignorance, move into seriously strange experiments, and ultimately improved now that I have started working with audio professionally and actually have some more formal ideas about mixing, EQ, and recording.

Thank you both

Update on this project:

Hi again!

I'm one 'album' into uploading my now nine-year catalog of songs to youtube, adding one original song (or cover) every week to my channel. The first 12 songs were written at the tail end of high school and recorded with a headset mic on Garageband starting in 2011 and finishing up around my first semester of college in the spring of 2013.

Once I got to college I started learning a lot more about production and used a lot of my spare time to experiment musically. I was also very lost as a person,  isolated, and infatuated with a girl and a friend group who wouldn't end up being the healthiest relationships. Unpleasant four years, but the resulting music, which will comprise phase 2 of this project, is pretty interesting.

Some of the themes will include:
-a new fascination with neuroscience
-crusty eyes
-self-censorship
-incredibly vivid memories
-trying to fall asleep
-synesthesia
-pretending we never met

If you're interested in following along, please subscribe to my channel. I'm uploading one song every Sunday.

Here's what I've got so far:

I think this is a great project....and I think "Alphabet Soup" is a fantastic production. I listened to some of that older stuff as well.....I really like your style a lot.

Isn't it interesting how adversity tends to discover something within us? I have also benefited musically from challenging times in my life.

I really like that arrangement of small acoustic instruments
The voices have something very positive and very cool
Very good work  ::thumb::

@Marcus Nalgaber sorry I'm just getting to this-- thank you. These were all done as I was graduating high school and into my first semester of college.

The next phase of this project (which I'm two songs into now) follows me through the effects of college and everything I encountered and felt while I was there. This includes classes and research in sound and music,  so the 'small acoustic instruments' start to give way to electronic/electroacoustic production, film sound, and other experiments.

this is the first song of this collection

Not sure how I missed this. This most recent one is a very cool production with avant garde instrumentation and vocals that sit in just the right expansive place for the piece. You did some seriously cool stuff with these vocals.

So....you tracked this tune in 2013. How did you approach the remix?

@Leonard Scaper Good question-

The main thing I wanted to accomplish in the remix was depth. So aside from cleaning things up a bit with EQs on the Master and double tracking certain parts with different EQs on the duplicate, the part where "a million wires connected to a million wires connected to a million wires (etc)" originally just got louder because i didnt know how I could get that 'zoom out on an ocean of voices' effect I was going for when I wrote it. It's still not great, but it's closer to what I imagined.

 It's also pretty clear that I was excited by panning sounds to keep the listener busy, but i wanted to tame that down a little in this reworking.
