Everything's changing
on: July 01, 2019, 00:37:58
A new tune
https://soundcloud.com/oorlab/everythings-changing
Started its life as three chords on the acoustic guitar, going upward from F (in a D fingering) to G to Am.
Then drums, bass and the rest. The lyrics were - as per usual, a bit of a puzzle, so suggestions are welcome.

everything's changing

Tell me the story of the lighthouse
Under the window to the east.
Looking out, over the fields of green,
Must be the deepest horizon, we've ever seen...

Where were you
When the night was falling
on our heads?
Didn't you see
the warning sign
up ahead?

Moving, ever closer,
Moving, to the edge
Changing, we're always changing:
Nothing stays the same.

Under, under the window
I was waiting for your sign.

Where were you
When the night was falling
on our heads?
Didn't you see
the warning sign
up ahead?

I couldn't find
my bearing in this land.
I try, I try, I try...

Searching, yes I am searching.
Share a light with me.
Keep me, on the right side,
Save me, from the slide.

Where were you
When the night was falling
on our heads?
Didn't you see
the warning sign
up ahead?

I couldn't find
my bearing in this land.
I try, I try, I try...
But everything's changing
Everything's changing
Moving ever closer
Moving to the edge
Changing
We're always changing
Nothing stays the same

@oorlab really enjoyable to listen to. I found it very catchy..the words "moving, changing" danced with your music so smoothly, and I really like the sound of strings with the guitar. Really cool tune.   :shinyteeth:

That chord progression is....so Oorlab!

I agree with @Kellyanneg ...this is a very cool song.

Hi again @oorlab

Very beautiful the lyrics of the beginning, it is a very rich description with few words however I get lost with

"Changing, we're always changing:
Nothing stays the same "

I think this sentence could appear after "Save me, from the slide "

I liked your song very much!!

I did not know that to live I had to die so many times

Tie a ribbon round it and don't touch or alter it or you'll smudge it.
A rather free translation of:
Strik erom en niet meer aankomen.
The end is fun too!
Kind regards, Gus

Long overdue mending of an error:
It should have typed as:
Don’t Touch it or you’ll smudge it

Of course, what was I thinking?
Sorry for the inconvenience........

I like the loose open sound  @oorlab - its a signature of many of your excellent arrangements. The shift to the minor chord works very well with the melody.
The first verse sets the scene  in a cinematic way ( hey, another lighthouse  song!) . The meanings become more abstract and personal from there... "save me from the slide"- I like that.
Good vocal,harmonies and strings.

Robert

This one caught my attention because it sounded like it could be a track from "Can't Buy A Thrill."  Now I'm gonna have to check out more of your stuff, man.  ::Rachel::

As you know I always listen to these as if they were mine and ask, "What would I do with this?" Well, the answer was, "Nothing" ..until I got to the third line of the chorus..

Changing, we're always changing:

Well if you know me (and I think you do), that's like screaming to CHANGE the CHANGE..  This is a classic text painting opportunity!  On the second "changing,"  CHANGE the chord to an F or Fmaj7.

I'm really liking this.. I think there's room for some really cool BVs and/or some other lead instruent like a sax or electric guitar.  Heck, I can hear a horn section.

Anyway,  This has great bones. Congrats are in order for sure.

Well @oorlab , I agree with @M57 about some BV and maybe some sax or relaxed horns. Nothing too loud or in your face though.

I think you could make more of those electric strums to make them stand out more. Almost chime-like perhaps to give a dynamic contrast to the overall rolling feel.

Much to like in this one

Thanks @MrBouzouki & @M57 - thanks for the feedback which I will use for a rework. A real saxophone would be definitely awesome - I do hope to find someone who could or would play it on my track.
" text painting opportunity" - interesting - must seek out more about this.

Lovely arrangement and mellow tune @oorlab  ::headphone::

It’s got a relaxed feel and evolves back and forth yet stays in the mood, which isn’t that easy to accomplish (know you me, I’ve tried to do music like that lots of times and failed plenty) and you pull that off with grace. Brilliantly done. The really cool feature is those “moving” outbreaks vocals effects and the string works are great.  :shinyteeth:
