Follow The Summer

Not really a finished production, but certainly a finished song.  I've kept it simple, used a drum loop, but the writing aspect is as ever, mine.  It will change and I expect my friend Hayley to add her stunning vocals in the weeks to come.  For Henk and all he does to keep the kitchen running - follow the summer my friend!

Hello Wicked
Nice to see you once in a while in the kitchen. ;)
Very sensitive stuff there.I like the piano work very much.Wish I could play this instrument. Hope this is one of a handful new songs.

Ah cool, new material from Mr Deeds :)

When I listen to your songs I always seem to get stuck with the word 'haunting' in my review... that's what it sounds like to me, in a very good sense of the word. I love this slightly menacing, uneasy and still quite peaceful sound !

Alexander is right, the piano accentuates the arrangement beautifully!!

That chord change at 0:56 is great. Totally unexpected, together with the break in the guitar playing it takes the song in a new direction.
As does that arpeggiated synth shortly after. I wanted that bit to last longer at first, but then you went full circle and back to the beginning.

Looking forward to hearing it with the female vocals. Will it be a duet, or are you replacing your singing with hers?

This is such a beautiful song...so haunting, as Michael pointed out :) The lyrics are awesome, as is the melody and your vocals :) It will be interesting to hear what you do with Hayley's vocal :)

You really have a very unique style of writing WD, and it's very lovely :) Nice to hear some new stuff from you :)

ah, listening again, i can only agree, STUNNING is the word that comes to mind

also for the arrangment as it is

it is good to see,
i mean, HEAR

you have not lost a drop of your songwriting skills

through all of it

that is cool, yes,

and this is cool...
yes!

So very heartwarming and humbling to read such kindness from everyone.  I'd say that a broken heart can teach a writer how to be open - bare his/her soul to the world.  I didn't want this to be about a big production (though it might be one day :-)  - I wanted the song to take centre stage and perhaps let some very honest emotions shine through.  I think it's quite sombre but beneath that, it's a song of optimism. It's about leaving the past behind - "Follow the summer, no waltz of regret. The past leaves us always in her debt".

Thank you :-)

Welcome back Paul   ;)

You know that you can produce wonderful, evocative and touching tracks.  This is one of them. And I have no doubt that there are many more to come.

Life can throw us all shit, but you have surmounted this challenge, and, delivered the quality expected from you  :)  Welcome back Paul.  ;)

J.
