@Leonard Scaper  "Actually, those congas are in there from the beginning. I spent a lot of time nudging them around to sit tight....maybe too tight?"
Ok, I can hear them. For my taste they work back there at the start... then (maybe around the end of vs1) I was expecting them to come out and make more of a rocksong prescence.
New mix is good. I like the song! :pompom:

@Dutchbeat and @robertkc .....I'm really glad you guys have stayed with this song a bit.  I appreciate the help in fine tuning. I'm definitely willing to keep on this one if you are hearing anything else.

I took the congas out during what I have called the verses so that I could bring them back in for those choruses. Those changes suggested to the organ made a big difference to my ears.

Hi @Leonard Scaper

Lots of great feedback already - so I just want to add that I really liked this. Great groove and I loved the ending!

Only comment (and it's a very personal opinion) is that the tone of the lead guitar didn't fit with the song - I would have liked it less fuzzy, more trebly with some break up. More old school blues type thing. In fact like Jimi's solo on Wind Cries Mary.

great entry for the comp!

cheers

Hey @oorlab ....thanks for checking this one out and I'm glad you like it. I messed with some other tones for that lead part but I couldn't get the feeling that I wanted while playing until I got to that one. With that odd arrangement of the instrumental coming in after starting the song with a chorus, I knew I needed something that had a lot of energy. Once I dialed in that tone I was able to just kind of let it rip like that.

Distorted electric tone really lights my fire. It's like a drug almost......I used to stand in front of three tube amps and play with earplugs in for hours. I actually cracked the sound board of an old Martin acoustic by accidentally leaving it out in a stand in front of the amps in one of those session.

Funny thing is that after I stuck that Jimi thing in I had the same thought as you about his tone being a better fit. Imagine that.....Jimi Hendrix having an amazing universal tone.  :)

Classic @Leonard Scaper . I’ve been listening to a lot of Allman Brothers Band recently so the opening licks definitely sounded pleasingly familiar. Vox and production top notch. As always . My only gripe is that, having enjoyed the rich Santana lead tone you achieved for one of your recent compositions, the lead sounds a bit brittle in this one and at times seems to be competing with the vocals.

Regardless, a strong entry for the challenge. Good luck!

Dan

@Liéschevre .......thanks for that about the organ. That is not an instrument that I am all that comfortable with so it's great to hear your comment. Thanks for listening.

@DanJames .....I have been listening to that guitar differently since @oorlab 's similar observation. So this morning I went back to the song that you referred to to see what I had on that guitar. It turns out that I had things set up about the same......but that tone is much smoother. So I did a quick remix this morning and dialed the tone in a bit better in the mix. I like it a lot better now.

Thanks to both you and @oorlab for pushing me to make that better. What a special place we have here........seriously. Nobody has to work alone any more.   :)

New mix.......

I see I have stumbled into challenge time!  :ok:

Funny I read the lyrics first (before realising this) and I thought ‘what a poignant and lovely song’... a sad song. And touching!

Having listened, I still think that!! But it’s eased somewhat by the VERY cool arrangement and production. Love that organ! You are quite the talented chap you are!! Very much enjoyed this very different song from you! Great stuff!

I’ll endeavour to get through the others too!! Slowly but surely....
