Girl At The Table Next To Me
on: December 20, 2017, 03:22:56
Enjoying listening to everyone's songs so far, this will probably be the last one of my own I share for the year.
I wrote the lyric for this song several years ago after a trip to Melbourne.  It may sound silly, but I was sitting a table in a restaurant with a friend and at the very next table there was a gorgeous girl, and somehow, despite never talking to her, it was the inspiration for a whole song! You know how you see someone and you wonder about their life and what their story is, and if they would give you the time of day?
The song existed as a demo for several years, and over time I have actually dropped the key by 3 semitones to find that sweet spot for my voice.  This version was recorded last year.  Would like to know what everyone thinks?  This song has received quite good feedback and I'm thinking of pushing it harder to the public.  The lyrics are extremely simple but, I'm hoping, relatable.  Any suggestions for improvements would be very welcome.
As with all my songs, I'm performing vocals, guitars and programming of drums/keys.
My friend Glen is playing bass and singing the harmonies.

GIRL AT THE TABLE NEXT TO ME

I wonder about your life
And who you're going home to
Maybe you have nobody?

You look so beautiful
Would you talk to me
No, I don't think you ever would

You're just the girl at the table next to me
The girl at the table next to me

Would you say hello?
Would you tell me your name?
If I said I liked you
Would you tell me the same?

Oh but you don't know me
You're just the girl at the table next to me
The girl at the table next to me

I'm wondering as I stare
At your loveliness
If you've had a broken heart

Might see you again some day
Would you remember me?
No, I don't think you ever would

You're just the girl at the table next to me
The girl at the table next to me

Would you say hello?
Would you tell me your name?
If I said I liked you
Would you tell me the same?

Oh but you don't know me
You're just the girl at the table next to me
The girl at the table next to me

Oh but you don't know me
You're just the girl at the table next to me
The girl at the table next to me
The girl at the table next to me
The girl at the table next to me

This is really very good. That chorus is a serious hook. When you guys sing it somewhat a-cappella with Glen's high harmony it really works.

The driving rhythm of the guitar and your strong vocals make this one a winner.

I'll be singing that hook line all day now.  8)

Very good pop song, driving rhythm, cool melody, polished harmonies and very strong chorus hook. The sound reminded me of someone like Rockpile (UK 80s band) and it's a kind of timeless sound you've put together there.

Listeners who are into this genre will go for this one for sure. Good luck with it as you push it out there.
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

@MichaelA thank you for that. I must admit I've not heard of Rockpile but will definitely have a listen now!
All my songs have harmonies now, mostly created by my recording partner, sometimes even three part harmonies. He has a good sense of where they are needed and they make the songs so much better.

Every guy can relate to this song! Sorry, I'm having a PTSD moment, haha.  This is a very catchy tune!  Has a sort of indie rock meets 60's pop vibe.  Harmonies are tight.  Guitar solo fits nicely.  Overall, enjoyed it!  Good luck with it!

Thank you guys!
@nicetalkintoya I often get the comment that my songs have a retro or 60s/70s vibe to them. I see that as a compliment.

Definitely a compliment!  The Beatles are my all time favorite band.  IMO, most of the best pop/rock tunes came from the 60s and 70s.
