Halfway Home
on: June 29, 2020, 12:57:35
Hey, guys! How is everyone?

Sorry for disappearing for so long but i had to deal with some health issues in my family for the last couple of years so making music and performing got put on hold but i've been working on some new originals and finally managed to record them.
As i'm new to the home recording stuff as well and just getting to learn the Pro Tools software, i'll appreciate any feedback on it as well as on the songwriting.

I'll attach 2 new ones that are kinda connected in theme.
Thanks and can't wait to check out all the great stuff you've been working on and releasing while i was gone.
Cheers! Geza

I like both of these tunes @gezaman . I like your sparse style. It allows the lyrics to be right up front where they can create the mood and the image.

The production and the mix works for me as well.
"The main thing is to have a gutsy approach....but use your head." Julia Child

"In a world of robotic conformity, the only originality left in music is the imperfections" Eric Craptone

"Special thanks to Steve Gleason for making me who I am today." Leonard Scaper

@Leonard Scaper Thanks a lot , i'm happy you liked them and appreciate your kind words!
I must also confess i had to look up the meaning for the word "sparse" as i never heard it before.  :D
Cheers.

@LePlongeur Hey, Gus! Yeah, mostly. I'd say getting adjusted to new circumstances in the everyday life would be more accurate.
But i finally have more time to focus on music and my other passions so i have a lot of catching up to do. :)

In the Netherlands, we are proud of our documentary tradition.
More often than not, a doc leaves an unpleasant feeling, but a good one is very much worth while. We are even sporting the IDFA yearly documentary festival.

Last Friday Dutch TV broadcasted the ‘ze noemen mij Baboe’. And babe is Indonesian for nanny. Both doc as well as music have earned prizes. The music is composed by Alex Simu, a name that may be familiar to you. It’s familiar here, although I still cannot understand why they chose to score the doc (with a very present Indonesian subject with Romanian music. For some reason it works.

And the music is truly beautiful. Thought you might like to know.
Kind regards, Gus

These songs are such an easy listen.   Very smooth delivery and all mixed well.   The vocals are working nicely and the lyrics are very well done and thoughtful.    Two very nice efforts here.    Well done!

@LePlongeur Yeah, of course i heard of Alex Simu, he is a very respected sax/clarinet player. Interesting choice for the documentary, indeed. And i agree with you on the topic, if we want to escape reality for a couple of  hours we have a bunch of movies to choose from, while documentaries sometimes shed a light on realities that are often ignored.

@eblossman Thanks for the awesome feedback, you just made my day! The recording/mixing part is very new to me, i just bought the audio interface for home recording a few months ago and i do it by myself experimenting and learning from Youtube videos.

Thanks, yes i used a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface with the guitar directly connected and Pro Tools software for recording.

No, for the recording i didn't use a looper pedal for the rhythm part (only when i play it live), in the software you can add and mix any guitar tracks you want one over another, for the solos and filler licks i usually use different tracks that the main rhythm one.

Two nice sounds songs here @gezaman . Sorry to hear about your family health issues.

Since we have quite a few on here without English as a first language it would be great if you post the lyrics too if you are able.

I also listened to your track Félhomályból (2019) in your native tongue. (Twilight ??)

I like this too.

Keep on creating :-)

@MrBouzouki Thank you very much! Sure, of course i can post the lyrics for the songs separately. I always add them under the video on youtube too in the description.
Yes, "félhomály" translates to "twilight" but an even more accurate match for it i guess it would be "half-light". So the title would be "From the half-light". It's in hungarian, i was born and living in Romania but my first language is hungarian. I can try to translate this too if you want to.
Cheers, have a great weekend!
