Hi guys,

I have been producing songs for quite some time, and I was sorry that some of them were difficult to retrieve again from an old W7 computer that had been left unused for 7 years. My archive looked lost. Fortunately, I found a way to recover them, so I am now rebuilding the archive. To celebrate it, I have posted one of the songs here in the Kitchen, called Ice Dancer. It's a fusionJazzy song, lots of funk and peculiar slippery chords, but hey, we're on ice...

Here is the lyric:

I'll offer you my word
As long as you believe it
I can walk upon the water
That you freeze for me
I offer you my hands
And hope you'll rub them warm
I'll tell you I can't use them
The blood and the stone.

I'll make a twist
I'll make a turn
Tormenting the ice
The spin is on me
I'll take a bend
I'll fake a bow
Tossing the dice
The cast is on me.

I'm dancing on a mirror
Spinning left to right
What's right was left
What's left is right

And when the thaw sets in
I'll make the tide feel colder
I'll drop another word
That will harden and stiffen
And splinter on the ground
And glisten like a razor
Enough to keep your faith.
And melt away the doubt.

I'll loop around
I'll scratch the face
Caressing the ice
The test is on me
I'll pierce the ground
I'll show the way
Snowed under
The tale is on me.

I'm dancing on a mirror
Spinning left to right
What's right was left
What's left is right

I'd like us to be friends
Cos I'd like to keep on dancing
I'll tie your will to mine
I'd like to keep on dancing

Your usual lazy or laid back groove. Itís always a happy event to listen to your music.

In case of emergency iíve got a 5x5 cm piece of hardware and your hard disk can be clicked in that. If we connect that USB with your computer you can easily copy the contents of the hard disk regardless of the malfunctioning of your old computer. Are you still with me?

The thingy is not mine, so I canít lend or give it to you.
But it works like a dream.
@Pleudoniem
Kind regards, Gus

@LePlongeur Thanks for the offer Gus, but I've already managed ;) All the files are now on two separate external drives, and I reckon that that will do. You never really know, tough.

Still tinkering a bit with the sound of the bass. There may be updates of the update to come. I've now used a replica of the Jaco Pastorius sound for the bass. I think it does well on it, bt I'd like to hear it from listeners.

This is a VERY cool groove!! Loving that snare sound. I'd consider bringing those vocals up closer to the snare sound, though, if you are still mixing this one.

@Leonard Scaper I agree. I've lowered their volume a tad. They sound closer now.

interesting to hear this again, after 8 years (time flies  :pompom:  :o) is this a new 2020 remix / remaster? Lovely iceskating sounds.
If you post new versions of old tracks, my advice @Pleudoniem would be to post new files with new metadata and link to the old version.
Lyricwise - I am specially  intruiged  by these lines

Tormenting the ice
The spin is on me

what does it mean?
cheers

@oorlab I wanted an update, because there were a couple of things with respect to the sound and the balance in the older version that I wasn't happy about. So, I decided to replace the old version. I still have it here, but I now consider it a beta.

It's a remaster, not a remix or a re-edit. Some of the synths I used then are out of date now, so I had to find alternatives that were similar enough. No problem there. I also slightly modified the texture of the drums, thus creating a sound that made the pacing feel more like the tips of the blades below your feet.

And the lyric, well, it is about an intriguing character  ;D

Great song and mix @Pleudoniem  My writing is just guitar and vocal so during guitar practice I end up playing one - no problem.  Something as complex and arranged as this is, I don't think you can just sit down and perform it alone, so it nice to go  to the "back of the rack" and revisit and re-mix one to make it new again.

BTW, for the younger members who might not remember record stores, "back of the rack" was a term  used for older songs and albums and  also less popular ones that shifted to the back while the new and popular were out front.

@Vince Thanks for listening. Yes, it's quite difficult to play the drums, the bass, the guitar and keys and sing at the same time, so I thought I'd better stick to one at a time and stack the rest on top of that :) It is quite playable on an acoustic guitar though, but it will sound quite different.

Like @Vince I am a simple bard but man how much would I love to create the kind of production like Ice Dancer. Top notch funk made me swing behind my desk. Bravo @Pleudoniem, what a blessing you were able to recover this.

It has been a common characteristic of simple bards to underestimate themselves, @Charlie  ;)

@LePlongeur The Dutch have a knack for doing this, don't they? :)
