Heart Strings
on: February 28, 2019, 20:52:39
Hi kitcheners,

I hope you're all well  :) ... I wrote a poem-song a few days ago. Backstory: I went to the theatre on the day to watch a friend of mine perform, and it brought back many childhood memories of when we used to take part in musicals together at school... and that gave me the urge to write something and when I got back home I wrote this. The lyrics themselves were not directly linked to the performance that I saw but rather inspired by some earlier life events, but the performance itself served as the spark to actually write it.... so here goes, let me know what you think! :)

Hey Rachel......I always look forward to your poem songs. This kind of informal presentation is a wonderful vehicle for creation for you. I can tell that it allows you to let the words and music just flow freely. You always end up with something heartfelt and fresh.

One day perhaps you'll open up your catalog of poem songs and find some to flesh out into expanded productions...there is SO much potential there.

.......they are also perfect just as they are.  ;)

Loooooooooooove it!
I thought it was my butterflies fluttering, but it was your voice!
But please be assured, my butterflies answer with modesty.
Back for another spin!
Kind regards, Gus

Hi @Rachel_D  I love the song, love the video and I think the lyrics are excellent!
I don't really like the detuned vocal effect in this setting ...
That being said, if the song was more produced with instruments and all the effects would work great.
That being said, your songs are awesome and you should consider really "producing" them with "more stuff"  ( like all the detail I'm giving there?)
That being said, your one to one piano and voice work is excellent and you should really consider just making simple videos with you singing and playing. I think the audience would really connect with you that way and you could say things like "Hi there if you like what I'm doing please subscribe to my channel" and all that stuff youtubers do. Then you'll be famous and we can all say we knew you when. Hey, if you have the theatre experience that shouldn't be a problem right? (I actually don't know what I'm talking about ...)

Way to contradict myself.   :bonk:       Does this make sense at all?

Nice song! Good show.

Hey @Rachel_D ! Cool, a new poem song!! Love the way you're presenting it on youtube, looks good!
Fascinating to read how inspiration works in your creation process, and you made good use of it!
Cool effect to use some chorus detune on the vocal, sparks some water-ish sound here and it resonates with the boat of hope..
It was lovely to listen to this new poem song!!
Cheers!

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to watch and listen and for your wonderful comments! :) you really encourage me to keep on creating :) (Apologies for my delay in replying, but I’ve been lost in a super busy real-life.)

@Leonard Scaper – I am glad that you like the poem-song concept :) Yes – I would really like to develop some of the poem-songs further into ‘proper’ productions. It’s on my mental ‘to do list’ / dream projects list! Hopefully, it will materialise during the coming decade :)

@Mora Amaro La Loba  – thanks for following my creations, I am happy that you like it :)

@Kellyanneg  – thank you so much! That means a lot! :)

@DavidHutton  – Thank you! :) I’m glad that you like it and its message!

@LePlongeur  – Oh! thanks a lot! :D

@realkevm  – Thank for listening! I’m glad you like it :)

@Bill from November Sound  – Thanks for listening and for your detailed reply. I get what you’re pointing out, I’m still experimenting to get the vocal sound right for these poem-songs. I have a second vocal version of this which I’ve just uploaded on soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/rachel_debattista/heart-strings) … does it sound any better? Or is it on the same level?
Yes – I get what you say about the level of production and trying out recording some simple videos. I like your video idea and would really like to try it out someday. I’ve put a mental goal for this summer, I should be (finally) ready from my university course and should get some extra time to experiment with music stuff…. And maybe I’ll get the courage to post it publicly X) (true it should be a bit easier given my theatre-past). Haha I don’t think I’ll ever get that famous :P but it’s still worth dreaming – and yes – I will not forget you if I ever get famous – and I’d tell all the world about our kitchen :) :)

@Zedd – Hey!! Thank you so much for listening and for being a source of inspiration and encouragement during the past years! :)

@Mar T – Heyy! I’m glad you like the presentation! I’m a very visual person and many a time I have these ‘images’ in my head when I create songs… and it’s nice to be able to share the visual side to my songs too. And I have found this medium as a temporary quick way of doing so. Perhaps, in the future I could refine it even more :) Thanks for listening and for your constant support to my ‘poem-songs’! It means a lot! :)
