https://soundcloud.com/oorlab/the-great-balloon-song-lu77/s-XrAen

while on vacation I managed to put together this rough demo, with a simple borrowed guitar, harmonica, a laptop and audacity.
I already had an idea for the lyrics about the balloon, when I read that it did not necessarily need to use that title. But I gathered it was no prob to actually use @lu77  fine title too.

Here comes the balloon
a-drift on the trade wind
catching monsoons,
you'll know how soon
the clouds cover the land:
come with me and see,
change is not a zero sum game
I believe we can fly
following the balloon.

Here comes the balloon,
I'm falling apart.
But I try to hold on
to that one rope,
that ties it all to one.
Into the sky,
balloon afloat and we fly.
There is no such thing
as a song we couldn't sing
about the great balloon.

Here comes the balloon
reaching the zenith
at highest noon.

there is no such thing
as a song we couldn't sing
about the great balloon

There`s a gentle charm to this @oorlab . I`m picturing you hanging onto that balloon string!
@lu77 `s melody is there for sure.
Very cool that you put this together on your travels.

Robert

@oorlab This song has the name Oorlab written all over it. It is plain, nice and catchy. Great idea to do this on vacation, because the wave sort of matches it.

See if we can beat Nena in this challenge...

De semi loco substitute plaatsvervangend chairman of the fanclub says:
Go on vacation more often. Apart from all the other benefits: Lovely song!

And of course I am not a stand up comedian. I’m too lazy to stand up. That’s why the occupation of chairman fits me like a glove.

Good luck with the challenge!
Kind regards, Gus

Hi @oorlab

You have made a very nice summer song full of summer images, that balloon that so many memories move in the eyes...

I loved "Here comes the balloon,
I'm falling apart.
But I try to hold on
to that one rope,
that ties it all to one."

The title?  I find it perfect.... Here comes the balloon... oops
I did not know that to live I had to die so many times

Lovely and lovingly response @Mora Amaro La Loba !
It is a bit of a mystery why no one mentioned Banksy’s balloon girl.
But I love @oorlab ‘s song. Kind regards, Gus

There's an underpinning melancholy to this which really pulls on the heartstrings.

It's retro sixties singer songwriter in many ways, but with the unmistakable @oorlab stamp on top.

A very charming entry that will gather many votes.  ::thumb::
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

thanks @MichaelA , @Pleudoniem @Mora Amaro La Loba  @LePlongeur  @robertkc  for the comments.
Glad to know the oorlab flavour was tastable :-) 'An underpinning melancholy' - nice way of putting it. Couldn't write an angry or sarcastic lyric about balloons, but may be in a version (after I get home so after the challenge), I might change these lines : "I believe we can fly
following the balloon" into something with a little bit more angst or zeitgeist...

@oorlab. But I could, and It's a tempting thought indeed as I've got some things to get off my chest. Pop some balloons. Wait and see.

Nice job on this production....on the road, no less. The whole thing has such an authentic feel to it.....I think the harmonica really makes that happen...along with the percussion.

Really nice lyrics as well.......I feel light and free after listening to this.

Hey @oorlab   … nice track! I already commented on SC but I'll comment here as well.
First, it is really impressive that you could borrow a guitar and lay down such a solid tune while away from home! I can't even imagine.  ::)   :praise:
Love the guitar and harmonica and the vocals are right on.
Good show!

Great song, very pleasing for the ears @oorlab  ::headphone::

Got to agree with Bill, find it impressive with such small means at hand to make such a good production. Makes me think of a lot of cool acoustic covers and versions of songs from the 60s.

I really like this @oorlab

It has a such a laid back feel to it - puts me on a holiday mood.

As others have mentioned, the harmonica really makes this a strong song. It gives is a Neil Young feel to it - which is no bad thing.

cheers
