Hold On ***

Hi,
This one tries to give a little hope for anyone who finds themselves in the unfortunate position where they can relate to it.
Most especially it is for my wife who is currently recovering in hospital (non covid).

Stay safe all
G

Hold On ***
verse
Feel my love, gather your strength, difficult days ahead
Hear my words, calling you home, here with me, in my arms
Prechorus
Hold on! with every breath. Hold on! when you’re close to the edge
All for one, we urge you on, come on! hold on!

Chorus
Come back to me, back to me. Keep your faith whatever it be
Back to me, back to me. Stay patient, stay strong
These are the days when heroes are made. Come on! come on home, hold on!

verse
Some are called while others wait and keep the home fires burning
Someday soon you’ll be away from harm, here with me, in my arms

Prechorus
Hold on! with every breath. Hold on! when you’re close to the edge
All for one, we urge you on, come on! hold on!

Chorus
Come back to me, back to me. Keep your faith whatever it be
Back to me, back to me. Stay patient, stay strong
These are the days when heroes are made. Come on! come on home, hold on!

Chorus
Come back to me, back to me. Keep your faith whatever it be
Back to me, back to me. Stay patient, stay strong
These are the days when heroes are made. Come on! come on home, hold on!

Hold on

Very much like the descending bass line  and the honest - non frills plea.
As a rule I am not overly impressed with auto biographical things but this one stays firmly on the  credible  side of the spectre. And beautifully optimistic as well.

If you feel a little bit unsure about the firmness of your voice and for that reason you want to double, you are in good company. All John Lennon's parts were doubled in the beginning. But (there's always a but) it takes a lot of effort to keep them synchronized. Later he applied a very loud 1 time short slapback. As Elvis did.
I really don't mind less than perfect things, but you can chose/choose your favorite track and mix the supporting track a little softer. There (in the mix) it still does what it is supposed to do without drawing too much attention.

A very very nice piece of work. If this doesn't melt her heart, I don't know what will! Next one please!
Kind regards, Gus

Hi @LePlongeur , thanks for the advice, really useful.  I will definitely be re-recoding the vocals when I have listened to it a while to get the melody into my thick head. I really like that idea of making one track support the other.  Where would you normally pan the two tracks?  I normally double track +5 and -5, but that is just guesswork!  Also, if you added harmonies where would you pan those too?
Btw I agree about the 'autobiographical stuff' - not my usual territory :-S

@Mora Amaro La Loba thanks for listening - never thought anyone would dance to it but hey, what do I know :-)

Hi @GTB
Normally I pan the vocals dead centre. Or , if I don't double, I use the loud/hard slapback 210ms.
I am certainly not going to post one of my songs by way of illustration. That would be too blunt, even for a Dutchman.
But feel free to listen to one or two of my songs here.

When given another spin I like it even more.
There's more to your song than meet the ear (leave murdering your language to me, friend). There's enough potential there. Really hope she likes it.
Kind regards, Gus

Edit: I forgot to tell you that I have a Boss VE20. A vocal loop station. Mostly I use that one for background singing. But every now and then I sing  ‘with my brother’, I.e. I electronically double my voice. It is slowly fading as a result of over use and age. And that way I can conquer back some of the substance I used to have. That and good breathing and I hope to fool everyone listening.
But don’t tell them, right?

Thanks @LePlongeur  & @Dutchbeat - thinks definitely looking up now, past the worse for sure.
I'll be trying out your approach to the vocals over the next week or two - though will give the ve20 a miss for now (unless it will make me sound like Elvis ;-) )

Hey @GTB   … for a very small fee $$$ I can help promote & distribute your music.  ;)    ;D    I was going to send you the DM on SoundCloud but figured since I have you here …

… sorry … couldn't help it.

Seriously the words are very touching and I'm glad to hear that your wife is recovering. The performance you have here … I mean I can really feel it … it's powerful.  :ok:

- good stuff right there!

I know you're saying that you will be making improvements on it in the future and that's cool. Good luck with that.
Best wishes for you and your family.

Nice song of hope. I like how you build emotion during the song. Best of luck with things.....hope all turns out well.
