Not much about my hometown (Honolulu), but it's what came out. I have another song idea on ukulele I hope to submit as well.
Thanks for listening,
Mike Woodward (WAZEE)

Very nice entry @WAZEE  - since you mentioned Honolulu it did give that kind of slack key feel.

Come voting time I'm going to have to give you extra points for posting the arrangement  ;D. What kind of software does that? - Do you have to write it out by hand?  I have to admit I have a hard time with tab, I like to see the notes with fingering, but who does that?

Really nice song...very soothing. I am listening in the studio after a long day and this is a perfect ending for that day.

The music fits wonderfully with the emotion of the lyrics.

Delicate soundscape created here, quite delightful really. The vocals are quite fragile and fit perfectly into this wistful number. Nice entry mate!  ::thumb::
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

Hi @WAZEE great entry for the write-a-song-about-your-hometown songwriting competition  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

sounds like you really miss Honolulu......and very relaxed atmosphere in the music with some strong hints of home sickness   ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

music sounds great, vocals are great too, but recording / mixwise they perhaps could sound a bit brighter

but a beautiful song  ::headphone:: ::headphone:: ::headphone::

This is my first time entering competition here, so I'm grateful for responses.

@Vince, I use the free software MuseScore (https://musescore.org) for the arrangement. Musescore has linked staffs, so you just add tabs and notes appear on the other staff, or vice versa. Usually I start with tabs because the software will translate notation to various strings. I really should credit MuseScore on the sheet music; and I use Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for recording.

Cheers,
WAZEE

A Wonderful Honolulu vibe  ::heart::

Nice job @WAZEE ! Perfectly minimal but meaningful lyrics .... wish they would come in earlier. 1 minute and 30 seconds makes for a long intro but it is a cool soundscape. Again, I like that minimalist vibe with the repetitive layers happening.

It's also cool the way you put up the sheet music.  :)  Format-wise, you are going against a few conventions of orchestration - nothing that can't be fixed though. You probably can just re-arrange the staff order in musescore to create a score that is more "correct".

Anyway, nice entry. It definitely has that "want to go back home" feeling. Good show!  :)

Intro was too long but once the vocals kicked in, I really enjoyed this. The unconventional drum pattern grew on me and by the end I was a fan. Nice instrumentation too. Good luck in the compo. Dan

Hey @WAZEE

Another nice entry. First I also thought the intro was a little too long, but on the other hand it has an almost meditative quality. And that absolutely fits the song.

My problem is now ... which one of your two songs do i spend my points on? ??? ;D

Cheers,
Mark

Hey @WAZEE , that was another nice listen! Loved the percussion and the synth sounds in this one, as wel as the strumming. Your voice sounds dreamy and the whole package triggered an image of a place where the storyteller once was or lived, and it sounds like good memories.. So when I see the title (skipped that part when starting to listen ;-) ) I guess you successfully broadcast that exact message! Well done!
Cheers!
