I Believed (But Now I see)
on: June 16, 2019, 14:29:27
Time for one of these songs that @Zedd calls Gentlebrains songs and as always it is a happy, joyful little ditty.
Well, that may not be 100% true.  ;D ;D
But it is gentle at least, more singer/songwriter than rokc I guess.
As always @Zedd  has been a great support esp re lyrics

https://soundcloud.com/jambrains/i-believed

When you've passed all of the milestones
they put up along the road
A one way street ahead
And a wall behind you
When everything's been said and done
and allís been seen and heard
Not an empty page remains
in your diary

I believed
one day I would be heard
And I believed
the meek would inherit the earth
Now I see
I just stood there
as my life passed me by
Now I see
I wasted what was given

I took the wrong turn once or twice
Did things that I regret
And shied away
From doing what I should have
I tried so hard to walk the line
Between my truth and yours
Lied when honesty
Would be misunderstood

I believed
one day I would be heard
And I believed
the meek would inherit the earth
Now I see
I just stood there
as my life passed me by
Now I see
I wasted what was given

I should have stopped for a while
To contemplate my life
But I kept on running
Scared to fall behind
Chasing worthless goals and dreams
Fighting misconceived
danger and enemies
That existed only in my mind

I believed
one day I would be heard
And I believed
the meek would inherit the earth
Now I see
I just stood there
as my life passed me by
Now I see
I wasted what was given
Let man's petty nations tear themselves apart
My land's only borders lie around my heart

I like those lines and the way you sing them @ jambrains! The whole write is very good - moving in a quiet way,  ( reminded me of a Roger Waters world-weary  ballad).

Very good ::thumb:: ::thumb::

I really enjoyed this one @Jambrains

The words are very strong - I really got a feel of someone approaching their latter years and reflecting on what could have (maybe should have) been.

Sobering indeed.

Your voice really suits this slower quieter type of song as well. Great vocals from you.

cheers

A magic mix of voice (voice first and for all), lyrics and melody.
The sun is shining here in the NL. And I donít know if itís caused by the weather forecast or the song.
Nice one!
Kind regards, Gus

The piano is so gorgeous in this!

Love how the drums and strings kick in later, creating a lovely full production.  Great stuff! :)

so this is beautiful, i love the tune and i love the lyrics... i especially like the second chorus production with that sense of a choir in the background
i think because i think this song deserves a HUGE and dramatic production, even bigger than now, iím thinking Pink Floyd The Wall or Momentary Lapse of Reason... which,... they donít flow, they stop dramatically, they build suddenly and then drop dramatically. interrupting the flow. your song has beautiful flow, but maybe it could be even more moving if it built and dropped in the fashion iím trying (unsuccessfully?) to describe.

i think iím suggesting these possibilities not because your amazing song needs it, but because it really reminds me of the themes of pink floydís On The Turning Away.... which despite not being a huge Floyd fan is one of my all time faves.

@Dutchbeat : thanks !  :)

@robertkc : thank you, world weary is a good description.

@Jurgen: you are too kind re the vox but thanks :-) You got the lyrics spot on I'd say

@LePlongeur: thanks and may the sun always shine on you!

@Layerson : tack som fan Micke :-)

@Troispr:  thanks for taking the time to listen and comment

@lu77:  thanks for the input, much appreciated. Not a big Floyd fan but I am a fan of ebb&flow / dynamics so I get what you're after but not sure if that would be right for this song. Worth thinking about though, thanks a mill.

Really nice piece, man. This song is intimate and huge at the same time.

I like hearing this side of you.

Just caught up on this @Jambrains ... a good track, nicely constructed, as I alluded to with my comments on SC. You get bonus points for not introducing an electric guitar solo at the end. With the build it would have been so easy to just slip a bit in. The art is often knowing what to leave out ;-)

Good Job

Hi @Jambrains

A very emotional song and lyrics. Precious.
Like @robertkc  I really liked this

"And I believed
the meek would inherit the earth
Now I see
I just stood there"

Very good arrangement, too.  ::thumb::

Enjoyed that, a very pleasant listening experience! I thought the meter/lyrics were spot on and, as always, the production was of a professional standard i can only dream of!
