I Want It All
on: March 03, 2020, 00:36:01
Hey all! I haven't posted in a while so I thought I would share something I was working on. Would love to get any feedback/thoughts. This is a song about struggling with anxiety/depression, but still wanting to live and love fully.

Thanks for taking a listen!

Micky

Lyrics:

Havenít wanted to get out of bed since yesterday
My aching heartís back
Mindís bad
Everything looks so sad

I know I gotta push gotta push
Gotta push
Gotta get my right of way
But in the moment I need to stay here
And think about what Iíve done

Itís times like these I feel defective
Cuz Iím way too protective
Of my overwhelming perspective
And at this point I canít be there
For anyone

Chorus
But I donít wanna waste my time on the earth
I donít wanna spend every day of my life
Thinking
Why me?
Why me?

Ooh I want it all
I wanna give my all
I wanna show the ones I love I love Ďem
The ones I love I love Ďem
Ooh I want it all
I wanna give my all
I wanna walk in rooms
And think that everybody wants me there

I canít remember a time when it was
Easier to walk away
From every situation
Thatís bringing me down

And I know I gotta work a little bit harder
To get my right of way
But right now I am concrete
My mind is stuck
At the destination

Itís time like these I feel defective
Cuz I seem to be protective
Of my negative perspective
And at this point
I donít really think I could change
For anyone

Chorus
But I donít wanna waste my time on the earth
I donít wanna spend every day of my life
Thinking
Why me?
Why me?

I wanna get out of my head
Take a good look
See the beautiful life
Around me
Around me

Ooh I want it all
I wanna give my all
I wanna show the ones I love I love Ďem
The ones I love I love Ďem

And I just need to breathe

I donít wanna think the same way my whole life
Or keep waiting for something to change my mind

(I just need to breathe)

And I feel like a stranger in my body
I donít need anybody
But Iím gonna get up
Get out of my head
I just need to breathe

Chorus
I donít wanna waste my time on the earth
I donít wanna spend every day of my life
Thinking
Why me?
Why me?

I wanna get out of my head
Take a good look
See the beautiful life
Around me
Around me

Ooh I want it all
I wanna give my all
I wanna show the ones I love I love Ďem
The ones I love I love Ďem
Ooh I want it all
I wanna give my all
I wanna walk in rooms
And think that everybody wants me there

Good to hear from you again Micky @Mutrins . This is another good one for you....full and smooth in keeping with your style. It builds beautifully with fantastic harmonies and lyrics that work together really well.

I love how you find another gear vocally at around 2:45.

You really get a lot of mileage out of 3 minutes and 50 seconds. Nice job with this one.

Nice pop music here and a great mix. Vocals fit very well in the music. The only thing that isn't something I would anticipate  is the lyric.
I congratulate you on stepping outside of light hearted lyrics in this genre. The message seems to be negative at the start and that's ok because life is sometimes that and why should we make every song some kind of an emotional high?  I'm not sure how this would "fly" out in the pop world. Maybe better than I think. Hope does not come from within.

Sadly it's a topic all too relevant for the modern world.

As usual Micky @Mutrins you understand the genre and know how to press the right buttons and more importantly when to press them.

It gets a bit muddy at the end with all the voices and I wonder if you want lines with "I Want It All" as the hook to be ringing out clearly and the main Vox to be a stand out a bit more.

One thing I've been doing more recently is thinking in 3D and having instrumentation and Backing Vocals with reverb but the main Vox with side-chained hardly any reverb,  to make it come forward in the mix without necessarily having it louder. It just becomes more distinct. Also pushing those consonants in a busy part of the track will sound a bit weird in isolation but really poke out of the mix.

@Leonard Scaper Thank you!! Really happy that you liked it.

@Timothy Smith Thanks so much! Yea definitely wanted to go for "real" here and talk about a topic like this. In my own words. I do feel like pop music has been showing that side a bit more. And, at least the younger generation (that I'm not a part of lol) prefers the "real" to the fluff (or even the light-hearted).

@MrBouzouki Thank you!! and thank you so much for your advice with those vocals at the end. Yea they definitely get muddy. And I REALLY want to have them come forward without making them louder. I get so confused with side-chaining. I know it's much simpler than I think but for some reason it drives me nuts and then I tend to avoid it. If you have any advice or maybe know of a good tutorial? especially for vocals. And drums! Thanks again!!

I'm totally unfamiliar with depression.
So maybe a little bit of being careful is called for.

I think that my reason for not wanting to get out of bed is Ella.
In other words: a beautiful reason to stay in bed may be the solution.

Like your music though, but I can only hope that this is not the price you pay for that.

Kind regards, Gus

Hi @Mutrins Thanks for your song. Again not normally a genre I would actively listen to but this forum may open my mind a bit. To my ear so much of the pop scene is lacking essence and heart but I do feel that is present in your song. Appreciate you sharing about your depression, takes a lot of courage and that's good sign, been through and going through it myself so I can relate. Well produced and performed.
