These are troubling times. I have been hearing a few protest songs here of late....I guess this is one as well.

In These Perilous Years
https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=13963553

These times
Leave me troubled
These days
Sometimes bring me to tears
All that is fine
Has been left in the rubble
Of these perilous years
And with no rhyme
And little reason
Suddenly I'm filled with fear
In these perilous years

All of this crime
And persecution
Coupled with
Terror and fear
Maybe it's time
For a revolution
With a goal that's clear
My solution
Is we should all be singing

Hey ya
We will overcome
Hey ya
Hey ya
We will overcome

Where are all our leaders
The ones who really care
About those of us who are bleeding
Way down here
I know what we need
It's just so damn clear

We need to be singing
Yes we need to be singing
Sing it with me now

Hey ya
We will overcome
Hey ya
Hey ya
We will overcome

We'll turn hate into hope
And let lies lead us to the truth
We'll use these righteous tears
To put out the flames of fear
We'll lead the world to freedom
And we'll feed the poor with love
In these perilous years

We can pierce this desperate night
With a bright and shining light
All the world will hear us
If we sing out loud and clear
All we really need
Is to know who we can be
In these perilous years

@Leonard Scaper  - mighty fine Gospel song. Loving the chorus.
At first listening I was expecting a chord changes at the first "that is fine" - while keeping the melody.
The Heya - is a cool reference
Good job!

You had me singing harmony on that chorus @Leonard Scaper - such a sweet resolution of tension built in the verses.
By the end ( nice acapella!)there`s a balance between biting observation of how it is and  HEYA hope... its easy to get sucked into the mire and you`re well past that ::thumb:: ::thumb::
A good one to close out the year

@oorlab....a gospel tune it is. I see that now.  :)

I see what you mean about that potential chord change there.

@robertkc ....I was SO hoping that folks would sing that chorus with me. I started this tune feeling the weight of the world's troubles and finished it knowing all would be well.

Thanks to you both for listening.

Donít know if itís really true that there is a rather sharp turn upwards when we talk about Ďtelling powerí and drawing me in. It could be my imagination, but then again, the best any artist can do is to organize the mood/emotions of the listener.

This one easily ranks with the best songs Iíve ever heard.
And that you note that we need to have clear goals is very practical and endears me even more to the song. Or endears the song to me. What do I know.

This is the key element. And more often than not missing in the whole set up.
This is what made occupy peter out mercilessly. Itís one thing to identify what you donít want; itís an entirely different story to start thinking about solutions.  And this song remedies this. No small thing!
So from ideological and from musical point of view, this is a winner.
Kind regards, Gus

Hola @Leonard Scaper
Clear song, clear message and as always very fine track.  So many people knowing what should be done and is not done.
Nothing changes except the number of the year in the calendar... But, it's not true, something is changing, something is germinating and that makes me happy because it gives us a future.

Coming back to your song, I liked it very much, it has that kind of atmosphere that wraps you.

Come on!

"Hey ya .....
...About those of us who are bleeding"

Hey Gus @LePlongeur .....I was never much for protesting and the like, even back in the 60's. There was just too much blind protest....just for the sake of it. There needs to be a goal and a plan to change. Even now, I'm not quite sure how to make things better.

Thanks so much for your kind words about the song.

@Mora Amaro La Loba ......I think you are right, Mora....something is changing at a very basic level. I hope we have time to make this world a better place. Thank you for your appreciation of the song.

Although I am convinced that the LPís of country Joe and the Fish, greatful dead, Jefferson airplane brought about a shift in peopleís awareness of things, I disliked the later gurus (war is over if you want it - making you and me almost responsible for not wanting hard enough) and the loose cannons like the Alvin leeís (we love to change the world) while raking in the money with truckloads. And this goes on and on. The U2ís headquarters in Amsterdam either because they love us so much or, make your own choice, because the Netherlands is tax haven paradise.

I never protested much. Instead I did a lot of very small scale initiatives. Very very small scale even. I cannot change the world, but I can make life more pleasant on a square kilometer scale. To pretend to be able to do more than that size is nothing but ego.

But we sure can kick ass with a song or two.
And that, my friend, is what I am planning to do.
And that is my wish for you and yours for 2020 too.
And write like crazy so we have a lot of oldies but mouldies.
Kind regards, Gus

I think that's the best we can do, Gus.

Thanks for listening, @Mo . Let's see what we can do with our music in the coming year.

This is excellent @Leonard Scaper  - from start to finish.

Your voice sounds so rich and has a sage like quality to it which really suits the words and message.

I'm also impressed that you've made a serious important message that also has an incredible catchy hook.

The acapella ending works so well.

Really great stuff Len

cheers

Hey @Leonard Scaper , what great song this is. It escaped my attention one way or another but I am glad I discovered it. How perilous these years are was proven early today with what happened in Iraq. Lord, what will be the next bad tidings. Let's cling to your 'Hey ya, we will overcome'.

Love your rhythmic punctuation which I also noticed in other songs of yours.

Charlie
If you dig it, do it. If you dig it a lot, do it twice (Jim Croce).

@Charlie ......yes, the perils seems to have increased with this recent event. Let us hope that more circumspect leadership guides us through these complex and dangerous times.

Thanks you for listening to my material and for your appreciation of my style.
