Into The Final Third
on: January 13, 2019, 11:06:46
I wrote this one last week to give me a little perspective on my first 67 years.

Into The Final Third
https://www.soundclick.com/html5/v4/player.cfm?songID=13829459

These hands
Are feeling kind of cold today
But that's understandable
After all these years
Now as the band takes the chill away
I'll just sit right here

Those first two thirds
Kept me kind of busy
But these last years
Are gonna be gold
Is he feeling fragile
Nah he just thinks he's gettin' old

I'll just sit right here

CHORUS
And listen for one good word
While I enter the final third
I'll listen for one good word
While I enter the final third

Time has been  flying
Leaving so much mystery
And so much history
Will never be retold
Does he think he's dying
Nah his hands are just cold

I'm gonna sit right here

1/2 CHORUS

I'll just sit right here
For a while
And listen

1/2 CHORUS

"The main thing is to have a gutsy approach....but use your head." Julia Child

"In a world of robotic conformity, the only originality left in music is the imperfections" Eric Craptone

"Special thanks to Steve Gleason for making me who I am today." Leonard Scaper

This is a very moving and reflective song @Leonard Scaper, starting the new year on a positive note. The years pass by for us all, but I like the determination shown here to make our time 'golden'.

There is some lovely guitar playing here, and the interplay of other instruments, some of them just in for intermittent appearances, is all very subtle. This is the Lenny signature sound that you have honed over the past year or so at its best. Quite right too, given the personal epic nature of the lyrics, reflecting on a life gone by and that part of it still to come. You just had to do yourself proud here, and you did!

I very much enjoyed this -  but my theory is that your brief departure to the Quirky Side for the Misunderstanding Challenge made you bounce back to your serious zone - and your deep and meaningful best. So if Indeed it's all down to the Quirky Force - may it long be with you!  ;D  :ok: Happy New Year!  ::Dutch::
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

@MichaelA ....I appreciate your comments, Michael. You know, I woke up last Sunday on my 67th birthday and these thoughts were right there in front of me. 2/3 of the way there......  ;)

my theory is that your brief departure to the Quirky Side for the Misunderstanding Challenge made you bounce back to your serious zone

Well.....if you get to hear what I'm working on now with @Dutchbeat in Just Cookin', you'll see that I have not quite bounced all the way back.  ;D

HaHa! Well I am secretly pleased that the Quirky Side is not letting completely go!   ;D And looking forward to hearing that freshly cookin' tune!  ::thumb::

@Leonard Scaper  Yes, moving and reflective as @MichaelA  felt about your birthday song. I smiled at those asides in the verses - for me they add a lightness just where its needed. "I  listen for one good word" - that sure strikes a chord !
The musical embellishments to your acoustic fingerpicking style are are subtle ; nicely done.
You have wriiten yourself into the future in this song - with optimism and honesty.
Very good songwriting ::thumb::

Robert

@robertkc .......thank yo so much for your appreciation of this song, especially about those two odd asides. When those lyrics came I realized that they were my inner voices so in the mix I put them in the distance a bit and in different places. Notice how they are not actually talking to me?  ;D

Thanks again for listening.  :)

A different musical concept that I like
The timbre of your voice I always like because it mixes very well with acoustic music
Congratulations  ::thumb::

I enjoyed this song, especially the optimism that seems to be moving through it just under the surface. I'm headed there too and can't deny I've had similar thoughts to these.

Great playing and singing!

Hey @Dutchbeat ....I had a bit of kick drum in there for a while but it was not making me smile. Glad you like this one.

@Timothy Smith .....I'm glad this tune gave you a bit to think about. Gotta stay on the positive side of this, right? Thanks for your kind words as well.

 :)

Thought-provoking stuff. Sweet, melancholic in places, but delivered with a calm wry smile. I like the understated electric lead and organ licks, which add so much to the overall mood. I kept wondering what the 'one good word' might be, but  that's probably taking the lyrics too literally. Nice!

That one good word is MUSIC ... @Leonard Scaper ... and thinking about it, writing it, helping other people with it, performing it and recording it is a large part of who you are.  ::heart:: ::heart:: ::heart:: That musical  connection between head, heart and soul allows us to make sense to some degree of what it's all about.

A nice piece of reflective songwriting ... but I almost expect nothing else.

As a follow-up to my previous post @Leonard Scaper, the UK-based musician John Miles has the right of it.

Quote
Music - John Miles (1976)

Music was my first love
And it'll be my last
Music of the future
And music of the past.
To live without my music
Would be impossible to do
In this world of troubles
my music pulls me through
