Intro / Song for review
on: January 10, 2020, 17:40:05
Hi all,
as a new member, I'll play the games according to the rules  :)

So as a quick intro about me, I started with guitar on my free time some 20 years ago, and progressed by playing mainly Metallica using tablatures... then progressively evolved and opened my mind to different playing styles and sounds...
I finally started to write songs (music and lyrics a few years ago and could finalize 3 titles, with help of some other musicians, in Kompoz.

Lately, I am looking to "enhance" (at least try to) some compositions from others when only voice and guitar by adding some Bass and drums... and mixing it at my best (non-pro) possibiliites :)

Now, I jump in the fire, and give you out a track of mine to hear to and comment: "Pillow Story" https://soundcloud.com/sebastien-grossetti/pillow-story-1

This was my first one, in time, but I like it... please tell me honestly what you think about it !!

...and feel free to browse in my published tracks, in SoundCloud to give me any further feedback :)

Cheers to all from France!
Seb

Hey @Sebzzz ......sounds pretty good to me. Loving that guitar solo in the middle . Nice guitar work and arrangement.

This was my first one, in time, but I like it... please tell me honestly what you think about it !!

Really good mix for a first shot. Work on sculpting your low frequencies and separation as you move forward. And maybe get those vocals out front just a bit more.

Ha! Welcome. Let themtalk about grab a chair. I would decline that invitation any time for a chance to pillow talk.
Do I have to post smilies? You know that i’m Only joking?

Do I guess right you’re from France? Perhaps there is a collaboration in the air since she is from France too and very very good.

Anyhow, welcome and may you write as much as possible.
Kind regards, Gus

Thanks, really enjoyable feedback! :)

Nevertheless:
Work on sculpting your low frequencies and separation as you move forward.
... I'm not sure I know what you mean :)

I'll still need to learn a lot, but I feel like I'm in the correct place for this :p

Cheers!

This particular mix could benefit, I think, from some judicious EQ cuts in the low frequencies @Sebzzz . By that I mean in the range of 100 Hz to 400 Hz. That's what I mean by "sculpting the low end". Perhaps some high pass filtering would help as well.

And.......experiment with more selective pan positions for your instruments.....see if you can get some wider panning happening as that might clear some space for other instruments.

I hope you don't mind my comments along these lines but it felt like you were looking for constructive comments.  :)

Hi guys
Welcome to the kitchen @Sebzzz !
I like the instrumental very much of "Pillow Story" with the guitar and the violins.
I like the different atmospheres and the yawn at the end is very funny. It made me smile :)

Thank you @LePlongeur for notifying me. Indeed, I'm French too!

Nothing to thank me for, @Mylene.
If I’d be twice your age and half that talented, I would be very happy.

Plus I would be very happy with another song by you.
Kind regards, Gus

Something completely off topic:
Some time back, I wrote an ode (in Dutch) to the yeh yeh chanteuses.
It raked in 1882 listens. Recently I wrote English lyrics to that song and in the near future I plan to write lyrics in French too. I hope for your ok if I ask for your help to avoid making painful mistakes with the French language. And then I’ll be able to record and post the three versions here. What do you think of that idea?
