Woohoo, I did it, a mammouth recording and producing session and I have made an EP, and its ok I think  :D

Ok so strictly speaking I did record some parts before yesterday but still, I spent 12 hours on this yesterday, it was finished by a rather drunk, tired version of myself but I think, in the cold light of day it sounds ok (at least on headphones it does..)

If anyone fancies having a go at mastering for me that would be groovy  ;)

Hi HabiTat,

The tracks work very well together. I like that they have a slightly dark edge to them. The summer track could easily be turned in to a brooding grungy rock track.
Is the Green Man Lies an older song of yours? I don't remember the song, but i remember the Green Man appearing in somebody's song a few years back. It sticks in my head because the student pub i often visited was the Green Man in Winchester. ;D
Vocals are great, and totally your distinctive style.

Hope it goes well for you.
My mastering isn't great, but i'll happily put the songs through the process i use. You don't have to use what i produce if you don't like them.

Cheers,

Digger

Wow cheers Digger, I'll take you up on that, I'll make them free to download now, so you can just take the wav files, if that's all you need??

let me know if you need anything else.

Thankyou

Right, I've made it free, so just click buy now and enter zero for the amount. you then get a choice of file formats, wav isn't there but one of the others might be ok (ogg vorbis?? flac??)

let me know if there are any problems

Cheers Digger

ha Habi, loads of karma points from me for this

i begin with "spring": what a beautiful song!!! the harmonies are great, perhaps i only would do some fx treatment on the first vocal try to make it a big bolder, fuller

but what a great song and track, i love the little percusion like track, excellent!!!!

look out!....... incoming Karma points

okay  ;D ;D ;D

"summer", well what can i say, not much to criticise.....great lyircs for summer
and just excellent high (very high :o :o :o :o) vocals!!!!!!!

super! even more Karma points for that!

and: Autumn, well that song is autumn, very autumn-ish, well the lyircs of course are, but the music and melody nicely accentuate the autumn wind and storm

Hey Ho!!!!!! great songwriting all over!!!!

Hey Ho!!!!

I've downloaded them so you can put them back to paid tracks if you like.

Cheers,

Hi Habitat,

Did you record the tracks quite loudly as there's not much headroom? They peak in places even before i use any of my chain. I usually have about 6-10dB of headroom before mastering. Your wav doesn't look like it's loud, but for some reason it comes through really loud. I'm wondering if my daw is going funny somehow. I'd be interested to know what your meters are showing.

Cheers,

Digger

Hmm, not particularly loud I don't think, none of the tracks were peaking when I exported them to wav.

Do you want me to dropbox the original wavs?

Hi,

Worth a try. I'm working on the downloads, but it would be interesting to compare with the wavs before they went to Bandcamp.

Hi Habitat...

I can't believe you did all this yesterday - quite amazing!

Listening now they're really fantastic..

Lovely harmonies on Spring and I like the high picked guitar piece (not sure how to describe it).. the gentle percussion works really well together... Lovely melody.

Agree with Digger Summer sounds quite dark - again a very pretty melody.. and lovely meloncholy feel to it, great rhythm also.. sounds very rounded even with the lean treatment..

And well Hey Ho I loved the first time round.. great medieval melody.. Think this might be my favourite of the 4.

And Winter reminds me a little of Famous Blue Raincoat by Leonard Cohen - I think it's the guitar playing and again the melancholy rather than it sounding similar in melody of course  (I mean this as a compliment to be absolutely clear).. Lovely lovely lovely...

They work very well together - really enjoyed listening to all of the songs back to back.. I shall listen again.. Love your stuff - as I've said I'm a sucker for good folk and this is REALLY good folk. Outstanding stuff.. Wow!

Z
