Katrina - collab Kozo & Chris & LePlongeur

Dear Kitcheners
The collaboration of 2018 is posted! It's Katrina. Made loud to play loud!!!

The line up:
The youngest (as far as we know)
The oldest (idem)
And the best Sängerin of Europe (you bet your ass)

Kozo:
the Lyrics

Chris:
the Singer

LePlongeur
the music

Chris took quite a bit of liberty with the melody, and I like that a lot. It's not for nothing a creative process.

The words:

Katrina
[Chorus]

Katrina, ain't no surprise they named a storm after you
You catch my eyes with everything that you do
You're beautiful, it's true, but so dangerous too
Oh Katrina

Katrina, won't you step closer and blow me away
I'm hanging on to every word that you say
Yeah you can ruin my life while making my day
Oh Katrina
Won't you please move my way
Please move my way

[Verse]
Oh I knew it from the moment I saw her
That I'd never be the same
I've known ever since the day I met her
She'd be the cause of all my pain
But she drew me in with the sweetest kiss
Into this rain
Now there's no turning back, no escaping this
She's a fucking hurricane

[Chorus]
Katrina, ain't no surprise they named a storm after you
You catch my eyes with everything that you do
You're beautiful, it's true, but so dangerous too
Oh Katrina

Katrina, won't you step closer and blow me away
I'm hanging on to every word that you say
You can ruin my life while making my day
Oh Katrina
Won't you please move my way
Please move my way

An enigmatic love song. Makes me wish I were Katrina, really.

Being LePlongeur, I am not only the oldest guy in da Kitchen, I have also the oldest recording equipment. So don't bother to type out suggestions for a different mix. Let's be thankful to the Gods and Chris there is a very decent mix. She's had 'some work' to get it right.

And don't bother with old dogs and new tricks, because this one's in Cmaj.
To the best of my knowledge, I've never ever done anything in C.

Wir sind sehr Stolz.
We are very proud.
Wij zijn heel trots. Je hebt geen idee!
Talking about a collaboration!

Enjoy!
Kind regards, Kozo, Chris, Gus

hi Gus @LePlongeur

great track ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb:: i like the chorus the best..this line is very cool in my opinion, how you make the hurricane being named after a real katrina....i think that is...very clever , i mean this line;

'Katrina, ain't no surprise they named a storm after you'

i hope the real katrina (i mean the person)  ;D ;D ;D ;D, has some ....sense of humor... :P ::) ::) if she really exists  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
(just shut up...Dutchbeat  :-X :-X :-X :-X)

nice song, and a great collab, and  the vocal is super  ::headphone:: ::headphone:: ::headphone:: ::headphone::

Thank you @Dutchbeat for your time.
@Chris Spruit, @Kozo and I have had our first collab together and we're very pleased with the results.
A mixed collab too, where roots are concerned.
The best way to a better understanding, I think.
Thanks for listening!
Kind regards, Chris, Kozo and Gus

@LePlongeur  and KOZO
After my summer break, your invite to travell new ways in Musiclands and time.

What I mean is, unusual way of producing for me, but I love the individuality and take my part on new ways and solutions.

It was pure fun and the message is clear for the bad things you need power for anything else LOVE.

Thank you for the Collab
Greets Chris
and now back to the Blues :-) ::thumb::

hi @LePlongeur and @Chris Spruit - great collab!

I also like the line "Katrina, ain't no surprise they named a storm after you" - I get a little worried if I think like @Dutchbeat  :o ;D

The guitar has a really nice Neil Young feel to it - it just needs to be mixed louder! It's a little too low for - especially the riffs between the verses and choruses, where Chris isn't singing.

Well done!

cheers

Yes, I guess the mix leaves some things to be desired.

Layering is the key word here.
First Kozo made the lyrics. With no idea what was to follow. Very brave!

Then I made a draft song. The backing you hear plus 6 voices that not quite drowned in the guitars. I erased all the voices and handed the backing over to Chris. Made loud to play loud isn’t mentioned for fun. I meant it to be a steam roller. Or stormy.

Chris, as a modest person with good taste, quieted it all down. But then it got to the point that the previous layer couldn’t be remedied. And she sobered up the singing too.
The result is very tasteful, I think. With some flaws..... but she couldn’t help the flaws of course.

Thanks for your comment! I’ll keep it in mind for future adventures.
Kind regards, (Chris, Kozo and) Gus

This is great!! The music has a heaviness to it that gives it serious gravitas and @Chris Spruit 's massive vocals deliver the excellent vocals with strength and passion.

This is a fantastic collaboration.

Nice job @Kozo, @Chris Spruit and @LePlongeur  ! A fine American-ish, Southern-ish Gospel-ish Rock kind of sound.
- Good Show!

@Leonard Scaper
Thank you very much for your comment.
Sometimes a recording captures something the people had not in mind, or better sometimes they aren't able to capture what they had in mind. But in this case you pinpoint exactly what we 'saw' before us.

Rana in Sanskrite, the joy that rises while batteling, is perfectly audible.

Thank you for listening.
Kind regards, (Chris, Kozo and) Gus

We do huh, we fit in nicely together. True.
But the gruelling thing of touring? Thanks, but no, thanks.
I love it though, that you listened.

11 ::Note::

I love this comment. Each artist can do no better than to organise the fellings of the listener. And each listener takes his/her own background with him/her.
And yes, you may be right, it could sound Southernish American too. Although I never looked at it that way.

Especially the bass playing is a hats off to Greg Ridley (ex Spooky Tooth and ex Humble Pie plus a wonderful vocalist too). I think the Humble Pie: They don't come more Bri'ish than that.
Suddenly you made me look at my own backing in a way that wasn't there before.

I wonder what @Chris Spruit and @Kozo think of this highly intelligent remarks and turn of events. I hope they'll comment too.

Thanks so much for your time and comment.
Kind regards, (Chris, Kozo and) Gus

I am just catching up on the feedback here, sorry for beeing late as usual.
After my journey and Music withdrawal for so long I have been in the studio , even the sun is shining Had to record my ideas down and catch up on playing piano.
Anyway, thank you guys ever so much for your nice feedback.
@LePlongeur   if you want  me to increase the level of the instrumental. I can easily do that, but just overall or at some point overall. If you want me to do that no problem.
I have to admit, the song is great the mix is crap but hey so what….remember all these great songs from the good old days, where mixing wasn’t important as today….and recordplayers where adding by cratch a good rhythm into every song ….:-)
@Leonard Scaper I am hearing a Blues harp ;-) in the distance :-)

Hey @LePlongeur @Chris Spruit @Kozo

This is really good.. a very cool sound.. Great vocals Chris - among many other lovely elements.. Guitar work is great - but as others have noted, just not loud enough in the mix!

This is really a great song.. Chorus is fab!

Great collab guys!

Yes, the blues harp. That would have been a great idea.
As for the mix, i’ve Tried to do this coop or collab as egoless as possible.
I know that you tend to put the vocals more ‘on’ than ‘in’ the backing. And I laid it in your hands, confident that you would make a thing of beauty of it.
And that’s exactly what you did.

If I had thought it out better, I would have made the guitars more dynamic to keep the pace with your singing.
If you want me to do that, i’ll make a new mix but it would be up to you. Because you’d be stuck with extra work.
For me, I’m really fine with this result. I love it, flaws and all.

Thank you so much for these lovely delicate forceful singing.
I can see Mariëtta’s thumbs up too. High and arms wide.
Kind regards, Gus
