Kingdom Come
on: December 09, 2019, 00:45:58
Hi everyone,

I need some help with this one please? Does the song hold your interest enough up until the last third when other instruments come in??

I recorded many harmonies and played around with musical ideas for the verses...cello, piano etc, but in the end I stripped it right back. I think I just felt I have a good few songs already where the music builds from the second verse , most people do that and I just fancied trying something different, plus, I love the contrast between the first 3 mins and the last 1 min and didnít want to dilute that.🤷🏼‍♂️😊

Iím happy to be wrong though.  So...yeah...less is more? Or more is...more??😆👍🏻

Thanks very much

She found me washed up on the shore
A stranger lost a shipwrecked soul
The life I thought I'd built on stone
Was drowning in the sand
Her eyes were warm and lighthouse bright
Her lips gave me the kiss of life
The words she spoke so beautiful
I longed to understand

Babylon, I see no hell fire here
My kingdom come is in her eyes

My sweet Amalie
If we only have this life your love is all I need
For so long I was just a skipping stone
Trying to stay afloat
But you gave land to me
And so I stay here at your humble throne
My kingdom come

She led me home through city walls
And lit a fire to warm my bones
And when she smiled a truth was known
I'd never be the same

Babylon, a revelation true
My kingdom come, she put me back together.

Attention held all the way through.  The vocal made sure of that, its sensational.   And of course, great lyrics helped. A loved the line "a skipping stone trying to stay afloat"  Ive never heard that before.

This is a remarkable song and not easy to do this well with a slow and empty arrangement. It takes real talent which you obviously have.  Don't change much if anything its perfect as it is.

Yeah....I'm agreeing with @seriousfun that this really works as is. You do have a seriously good voice, but the structure of the song also is so strong right from the start that it held my attention. When the rest of "the band" comes in it is like getting a bonus.

Love that secondary vocal in there as well.

Nice short fade at the end. I generally like a longer fade if there has to be one but you really make this work with where you take the chords.

@hi Lostboy, mission accomplished  :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: ::headphone:: ::headphone::

as far as i am concerned, your vocal keeps the attention focussed out here

man, you can sing!!!  ::headphone:: ::headphone:: ::headphone::

this is pretty awesome, as in

pretty & awesome

but...once the additions come in, the extra vocal, the string sound etc.

perhaps go....BIGGER, i mean climax to a full out climax, with more instruments

and make the contrast in the song bigger? HUGE  ;D ;D ;D even?

just a thought

beautiful!!!!  ::headphone:: ::headphone:: ::headphone::

Those chord changes and the vocal melody are sounding amazing and together with the nicely executed high notes, interestingly written lyrics and beautiful arpegios were enough to retain my attention up to the third minute. And Wow! What a beautiful surprise after that! I guess the stripped down start makes one appreciate the last minute even more :) ...What a spectacular song! :D
