Hey @Zedd , wow, I love this track! I listened to both the wip and live version. I was impressed by the mix in the wip version, and I would've brought up the drums and vocal tracks to tweak as well. The live version is just perfect imo production-wise! Wow, you've improved your mixing/producing skills Karen!
As for the song itself I love everything about it. Nice layed back feel, beautiful guitar playing, and your signature voice sounds perfect, well sung! The song has a very nice arrangement, with subtle and tasty changes (for example: guitar in first verse, piano in second).. I kept focussed until the end.. and then hit replay again!
I especially loved these lines:
'Go spend your time on some other poor soul
Don't borrow my trouble to make you feel whole'

All in all this is a realy beauty imo Karen!! I loved seeing you post a new solo-track, well done!!
Cheers!

Well @Zedd - everything seems in it's place now and the whole story comes across to the listener.
The vocals are what this song is all about and it's right to put them where you have in the mix.
Everything else is playing a nice supporting role. I agree with @Jurgen that the tremolo guitar adds a nice touch.
Great job lass and I'm just about to repost in on my repost account.

Sounds very good. I think my favorite parts are the BVs in general and the bridge at the end with unexpected but appropriately ear-bending changes.

The only thing that stood out to me as something I would address:  The words "listen to you" are what I remember - not the word "Why," because you don't sing it enough and it's what I call a "throwaway word" the way it's parsed as an iamb - so I think your intention is lost (maybe??). On the other hand, it may very well be intentional on your part, because in the absence of the word "why" the phrase could be interpreted as being ironic or sarcastic.  I dunno, depending on what you're trying to convey, I might try and sneak the word "why" in there more often.  Hope that makes sense.

Best with this,  -Mark

@Jurgen
Thanks a mill - yes I do love a bit of tremolo I must admit... and thanks for the feedback on the mix...

@Mar T.
Thank you sir - I take your word on the mix - it doesn't quite feel like that but I trust the feedback I'm getting.. I still have some hair left after this one but I find it excruciating I have to say... I'm getting steers in the background from @Jambrains so thanks to his patience, I'm learning lots.. I just seem to keep forgetting again what I learn :) Thanks for your lovely comments..

@MrBouzouki - thank you so much.. and thanks for the repost and taking the time to advise me. I really appreciate it.

@M57 - thank you so much for your comments.. Yes, I get you about the "Why" but I think the point comes across - if I sing the Why bit too much it gets a little cumbersome but you are indeed correct, the Listen To You part of the lyric definitely sticks out more... One to ponder and I thank you for your time and advice..

Thanks all...  Every listen and piece of advice is very much appreciated.

What a great opening line lyrically @Zedd. And well crafted lyrics throughout really.

I like how that guitar accompaniment makes this glide along, and then you are very brave to strip it away later, when I normally build things in a linear way. But I have notice this about you. Unpredictable!

The chorus is very memorable - and you sing the whole thing really well by the way.

You should have put this in the Re-work Competition. Could well have won! But why should you listen to me, anyway?!  ;)

If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

Hey @MichaelA - thanks for the listen and the lovely comments..

Ha! Unpredictable - it's just that I don't really know what I'm doing - you know that!! But unpredictable sounds better so thanks :)

You should have put this in the Re-work Competition.

Ah that would have been cheating though as I just wrote it although it took me so long to mix it might have qualified as a rework if I posted the first mix as the original :)

Sounds great, I love the sparseness of the mix. Vocals superb as ever and that hi-hat sounds fantastic. Melody and bass reminded me slightly of very early Wonderstuff, but please don't take that the wrong way!

Listening to the new mix now and it has a nice balance.  I like the falsetto choruses, it's something that could get stuck in your head.  The change in delivery at 2:20 is a nice touch, as is the harmonies.

Hi @Zedd,

very good song and very well produced. Before the piano comes in I thought you could add some Epiano a bit earlier. I agree with a comment from @Leonard Scaper that the guitars could be a bit louders. Ah, and I would not do a fade out at the end ;-)

Otherwise very well done!

Best.

Cool song. In a next version, or a similar track I'd recommend to bring in the Tremolo guitar sooner.
Thumbs up

@DanJames, I vaguely remember the Wonder Stuff but looked them up again and yes, I like their sound a lot so thanks for the re-introduction!
