lyrics

Listen To You

bring me here,
to leave me here
out on the course with no idea
toe the line,
work overtime
the salacious lie keeps the man on-side

should I refuse the force of you?
I don't have to
I listen to you, I listen to you

your name down in
history
with fiction never so clean
now I'm trailing
in your dust
you take the heat for the both of us

should I refuse the force of you?
I don't think so
as you confuse my point of view
you turn my screw, and I... and I...
all intent has come undone
here in hesitation you turn me on

should I refuse the force of you?
I don't mean to
I listen to you, I listen to you

your name down in history

I like this - great lyrics and story and there is a David Bowie 'Black Star' quality to your voice and I like the almost disjointed instrumentation that accompanies a really beautiful melody throughout. I think that you could create a fuller sound scape to wrap round the vocal melody however. I feel it deserves it. I think its needs more  instrumentation, something like strings or keys (maybe a vintage organ?) to fill out the sound, particularly at the chorus to bring it alive. But this is a just a production comment - the nuts and bolts of the song..lyrics, melody, structure are spot on and can be taken in any direction really. Liking this a lot, thanks for sharing!  ::phone::

This song by you and your Mystery Friend has a downright Rightly feel to it. As @Polestar said, your instrumental production has such a unique feel to it. That draws in your listener for a closer listen and really tends to highlight the vocals....and therefor the lyrics.

This set of lyrics reads like good poetry to me. Every time I read through them I find myself stopping at different places to let them surround me a bit and seep in.

Interesting about that David Bowie comparison. I never picked that up before but it's definitely there.

The only Bowie album I like is the one with twiggy on the cover.
So that in itself is not enough reason to like this song the way I do.
I like the song and I like the sound of each individual instrument. It’s quite an eccentric approach you’ve chosen.
Bowie the great imposter. My impression is that this song of yours is for real.
And I grabbed me from second two.
Kind regards, Gus

Hey Rightly - this is hypnotic for sure. Although I really like the sparsity and ambient vibe - I too think that something else - perhaps an acoustic guitar or Electric piano very subtly in the background would help the build - and give the vocal a hug in places.

I get the Bowie reference - but actually this vocal performance has many other facets and is beautifully stark and textured. I really like the small slapback delay on the vocal.  A keeper.

Lol. I used to keep a list of the voices mine was compared with.
It got too long.

I like Bowie.
It was not that infrequent that he’d fail.
That next day album was patchy. Why would he insist on having tons of songs on his later albums?
Keep it down to 9 good songs and he’d have risen in my esteem.

I’ve never tried to imitate or to be original.
I was recently compared to the voice of the divine comedy.
By golly! He can write.
Im the worst consumer of music.
I don’t like listening to a lot of music.
But I realize there are so many recent releases from artist I like.

Ah back to the grind.
