Lockdown

https://soundcloud.com/oorlab/lockdown
This week's news of the Corona Virus, the situation in Wuhan, and Brexit gave a bit of a gloomy input for this song.
It started out as a test to see if I could combine a Drumatic Midi drumtrack with a drumtrack played on the V-drums and recorded as audio. That sort of didn't work out, but it evolved into this current song.

There's a sign in the sky
that says all will be well

Lockdown
you can't get anywhere
Trying to leave the city
no-one knwos who will be spared
But at least you know we cared.

Too much
Information
Coming at me
24/7 knocking
on my frontdoor
Lockdown
I can't hear it anymore

There's a sign in the sky
that says all will be well

Lockdown
They say it wears a crown
And in the dark goes around

eleven levels of change
Whatever you do
you're never out of range.

Patience
I can't believe it anymore.
Whoever has the keys
Can you please
open the door.

Lockdown
Lockdown
Save me

I really like this - it's got some Bowie vibe going down in the vocal. Add the nice guitar interjections and that cool beat driven arpeggio thing this really keeps my interest.  The playing, arrangement ..everything seems good as is. I don't really have that much in the way of crits or suggestions for the music, but on the mix end there are a few things.  I immediately noticed that there are lower mid range frequencies in your vocal that are very harsh in the mix.  Just looking at the Soundcloud wave form while listening makes it clear.  It happens a lot more in the first half of the song (where those SC waveform spikes are really big).  Toward the last half, you've got the opposite problem .. the vocal is too weak in the mix.    My suggestion is to find the culprit frequency range and use one of those dynamic EQs to soften it so you can keep it up front in the mix.

All in all, this one is really good.  Congrats on a great job.

Only recently Coronas were cigars.
They killed too, but a little bit slower. So nothingís changed.

I canít help but admiring how beautifully clear your recordings sound.
Kind regards, Gus

Will do that, @M57  - thanks for the tip. I will look up dynamic EQ.
@LePlongeur  -  I'd prefer the cigar over the virus...

Hola @oorlab
I like the song and the lyrics are good ...

I love this:
"Whoever has the keys
Can you please
open the door."

The base sounds great but the volume of the voice that at the beginning is very good,  there are several times then that it's loose.
Your voice has a very English color and fits fine in this style.  ::thumb::

I really like this as well. It sounds to me as if that vocal anomaly at the beginning that Mark @M57 referred to is an intentional effect.......I like it. You have the vocal in a slightly distant and dynamically different space that works for me.

If it is not intentional......perhaps it should have been.  ;D

ha @oorlab, this sounds fantastic!!!! awesome

i like those sparingly used bass notes....that is great....the combination of those notes with the tight and continious snare and teh occasional nicely deep and loud kick drum makes for a super thight foundation on which you present your song...great song and lyrics too, and very catchy

i reposted this

Hey @oorlab - I agree with the comments about your lovely clear mixes. As we know, I'm no expert but it sounds fab to me. Interesting theme - and well, I for one am a fan of gloomy songs :)!  Great lyrics and a very engaging melody.. Lovely to read about the evolution of the song too... Nice work, sir!

Thanks @Zedd , @Leonard Scaper and @Dutchbeat  for the comments. Indeed the change in vocal effect was 'sort of' intentional, where I wanted an extra filter at the first half, and in the second half turn that off. But in hindsight I agree with the other comments about 'find the culprit frequency range'.  So a new mix is on my to-do list.

@oorlab Nice tune. Its atmosphere has a bit of the movie-like doomsday feeling that you also hear in Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. But then, it is not a very optimistic song, is it?
