Misunderstanding Challenge Entry: 'Lopsided Love'
on: December 30, 2018, 18:26:06
Whooo  just about made the deadline this time, due to all these annoying friends and relatives deciding to make themselves at home at my place over Christmas.  ::) But it was finally very nice to spend half a day singing and mixing now I have evicted them all!  ;D

Here we see a misunderstanding in love - where it is so difficult to tell the difference between love and hate, until it is maybe too late. From my Quirky Factory!

https://soundcloud.com/michael-a-duffy/lopsided-love

Lyrics:

Lopsided Love

We blank each other out all week
Leave post-it notes, but never speak
It's OK
It's our way
You make me a mug of tea
A silent truce to say sorry
It's OK
I won the day

The fine line between love and hate
Don't think is very straight
Oh wobbly
That’s what it is

You say you think I love to hate
Why must you overstate?
Oh probably
You’re just in a tizz

It is quite extraordinary
Contrary and strange
Oh very
Oh la la la
Ooh-wah it's our
Lopsided love
…Lopsided love

The washing machine shrunk my clothes
Your little joke, well I suppose
This is love
Quite unique
Your favourite novel superglued
Its pages stuck, you called me rude
We dance then
Cheek to cheek

The dishes hurled across the room
Just mean your passion grows
Oh please
Improve your aim

Down the sink goes your perfume
Now my love really shows
Oh please
Don't stop this game

RPT CHORUS

She loves me, she loves me not
She loves me, she loves me not
She loves me
If apathetically
‘Cos she deserted me, unsympathetically
Now suddenly
Mystified, I am

The properties of love and hate
So hard to isolate
Oh no
A mystery

Only pain can educate
You in the shades of love and hate
Oh no
You're then history

It was quite extraordinary
Contrary and strange
Oh very
Oh la la la
Ooh-wah, our lost
Lopsided love
…Lopsided love

If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

I already have the name of fickle, where the challenges are concerned.
So what have I got to lose?
Listen to this and listen again and I am very very glad to be withdrawing from this challenge again.
Simply because this is so catching, so musical, so hitting the nail on its head, that the rest of us can only be proud to wash your dishes or some such thing.
Nomen est omen.
Not LePlongeur for nothing!

Fabulous piece of work this song.
Good luck to you!
Kind regards, Gus

I really like these lyrics......the wobbly line between love and hate. Love the way you throw some wobbly music in there to accentuate that. This a a perfect story line.

Seriously good vocal performance. You really project this story wonderfully.

Thanks @Dutchbeat and @Marcus Nalgaber for the encouragement. Likewise @LePlongeur , but please don't leave the challenge on my account, as not everyone is as keen on my style as you seem to be and you can never predict the voting in the Kitchen anyway. But thanks for talking me up all the same!::thumb::

Yes @Leonard Scaper isn't 'wobbly' a great word?! Hardly used in songs, but that's a sad omission!  ;D I will look back on 2018 mainly for the breakthrough moment when I realised that 'wobbly' rhymes with 'probably'! I had to go and have a lie down for a while after that exhausting creative breakthrough!  ;D thanks for these comments, cheers!

Very good @MichaelA  ::thumb:: ::thumb::
Real and funny breakdown/ makeup details in the lyrics and those sighs are great.
Nice wobbly sounds too.
The quirky factory makes good songs!

Only 6 replies?
Man, you could sing a telephone book and be a top musician, should anyone ask me. And even if they don’t.

Anyway, I kicked it right up to #1, for as long as it lasts anyway.
And I hope for more applause from our collegues/Kitcheners.
I think you/it (the song) deserves it.

Thanks @robertkc , yes I do like my Quirky Factory, although I do realise it is not mainstream!

@LePlongeur , thanks for the bump. It does seem a bit quiet on here right now, so six reviews might be just the way it is. I don't really mind, as I am sure more will come in when the voting opens.

This Kitchen is an unpredictable place, sometimes busy, sometimes quiet, but I really do appreciate your support, thank you so much!  ::thumb::

 :D  LOVE it!

Oh man, @MichaelA , some serious song craft here!!!!  This is funny. Some of these words I don't quite get …. speaking American English and all ….but it is funny. "blank each other out all week." ?? I think that I think this means something else other than what you thnk it means so I'll go with the meaning that I think you think. "You're just in a tizz" ? ..... anyway a lot of idiomatic expressions I guess.

This is crazy! Only you could make this rhyme and work rhythmically ... sort of.

The wibbly, wobbly, bibbly, bobbily music in the background adds a lot of subtle details. The music is cool, the lyrics are absurd, the melody is pretty strong and the vocal performance is right on. It works!

Good show!

Hi @Bill from November Sound , thanks for these encouraging comments.

I never really thought about the worldwide nature of the audience here in the kitchen, so sorry if some of my English terms were a little on the regional side. To 'blank' someone simply means you ignore them when you would normally be expected to engage with them. You treat them like they are invisible!  It is actually great fun, you should try this with Melissa asap!  ;D

To be in a 'tizz' (in Northern England) means you are in an emotional state and irrational in your behaviour. My wife is more of an expert on this than me to be honest! But it's all great inspiration for songs!  ;)  :ok:

Glad you enjoyed the song anyway!

Very much enjoyed - specially the harmonizing. Good full production. Props for posting the lyrics.

Now that was a nice, humourous, sad, beautiful song man, and imo you perfectly fulfilled (is that correct English?) the assignment!
I'm in awe again by your improving singing skills, tells me you've been practicing a lot! Chapeau!
If you'd want me to nit-pick I'd say the lead vocal sounds too compressed/squashed (that's just an opinion, the pointer is: did you do this on purpose?). And the bass note under 'mystery' and 'history' doesn't seem to fit the chord that's played. That's all!
Very nice one, should do fine in the challenge!! Good luck!
Cheers!

Hi @Mar T. , thanks for the critical listen and kudos for picking up on that flat bass note. It sounds so obvious now, but yeah, I missed it but will correct!  :ok:

I know the song is maybe a little too Quirky for this kitchen's majority taste (well I saw, like every voter, the early scores.) But I still really enjoyed doing this song and to those who enjoy this sort of thing, well thank you very much!  ::thumb::

And well done to all the other participants for such a good show!
