My Childhood Friend
on: April 22, 2014, 00:31:42
I have been really struggling to write songs since the turn of the year, and I am delighted to be posting this. I have had the title for a while and the song sprang into my head this afternoon. Any and all feedback welcome. Iwant the chorus and the verse to be separated more, and I want the build to continue throughout the whole song.

Thanks in advance

Good luck

My childhood friend

all through my life
you have been near to me
My childhood friend

All through my life
You have been dear to me
My childhood friend

All the growing pains, you helped me through
you were there for me, I was there for you.
Trials and tribulations, that we faced head on
I am weak alone, but with you I'm strong

all through my life
you have been near to me
My childhood friend

All through my life
You have been dear to me
My childhood friend

Your shy and insecure in new company
you act reserved, but not in front of me
and as we've grown older we've never grown apart
I'll be there at the end, like I was at the start

Because all through my life
you have been near to me
My childhood friend

All through my life
You have been dear to me
My childhood friend

Hi Onemanband, nice lyrics, a sort of tribute to a lifelong friend

i like these lines best
and as we've grown older we've never grown apart
I'll be there at the end, like I was at the start

i don't dare to give you advice on the lyrics, i am too Dutch for that, but i think a middle 8 , a part where there is some twist in the lyrics would be good, but perhaps there never has been a twist, since this is clearly based on real experience, i think

and good to see you in the kitchen again, keep cooking those songs !

Hi OMB

I'm not sure if this is quite a finished song yet (mind you, I post half-hearted songs in this section, so I'm not one to criticise  ;D).

A great song - very emotional and very James Blunt.  I would urge you, when you next record this, to sing with more confidence.  You have a great voice and by singing with confidence you will lift this song immeasurably  :)

I also like that the backbone to the song seems to be the "all through my life...." chorus.  This is very simple but very effective.

A great song, which needs more attention (production wise) and I'd love to hear the next version.

J

Hi Onemanband,

it is only now i see you also added a link to the music. Sorry about that, my response probably looked silly, i was only responding to the lyrics

the music is great!!!!! And that vocal of you is great too, you are singing to shy (put the volume up)...you have a nice sound (a bit like James Blunt, the sound of your voice that is, IMO)

nice tension building, a great song for a full arrangment (going full out towards the end of the song), a great 70s vibe in this!!!

Hey OMB!

The first vocal sounds (before the actual lyrics started) reminded me of Eddie Vedder.
Which is a huge compliment, in case you doubted :)
And yes, I get Blunt as well.
But you should lift the vocals up a bit next time. Guitar is too loud now.
Don't see why you should keep the vocals low. Sound good to me.
