To highlight ĎPrompt Writingí in Ďingredientsí, I take the liberty of posting an entry on the first prompt, some three months ago.

https://soundclick.com/r/s8e42x

The lyrics:

Mystery caller

There is a yoga exercise
Aimed at finding your own breath
Still donít understand what that means
Itís not a matter of life and death

We sit opposite each other
Meanwhile outside it simply pours
Draw close and closer to you mouth
Didnít find my breath, but I found yours

Bridge
Accused of being a bragger
Itís high time I pay my dues
Somebody out there in the US
Is convinced that this is fake news

Chorus
Itís so easy to make a mistake
Lara maybe slightly taller
She tried quite often to reach me
Mysterious mystery caller

Hey, why did she call me 34 times?
And did she cast a Stone alone?
Seems she knows I go to bed at 10
My provider isnít Vodafone

21:20 Ė the 21st
I wish I had her confidence
Itís almost too good to be true
Itís too large a coincidence

W30jul2020 Prompt: Mystery caller

Donít try to explain too much or to psychologize (if that word exists at all). Itís as Beth Hart said: itís only entertainment.

Itís only an attempt to trigger your curiosity. If the idea of kicking some ideas around and posting something small and unpretentious every two weeks appeals to you, please join. Weíve only begun recently and already itís developing surprisingly.

You are more than welcome to join.
Kind regards, Gus

I like it a lot, because it has that strength and that exclusive fragrance of the nonconformist generations.
Don't stop making music

Hola @LePlongeur

What you are talking about, I don't know if I have understood it correctly, is to create lyrcis suddenly, as it arises, and make the arrangement?

If so, it is a curious experience, like a chance encounter of some words with a napkin in a pub that picks them up to unleash whatever comes next ...

The instrumentation and the melody reminds me of something ... I don't know, but it fits perfectly with this story of misunderstandings and longed-for mystery

It's great to see that despite being all with the heart sinking by the virus, you continue, like others, creating your universe.
Tell me more about the "Prompt Writing" project, please.

Meanwhile, stay safe!

Hola @Mora Amaro La Loba

A prompt is not ĎrŠpidoí, but razůn o idea.
OK?

So here is an explanation:

The idea behind a prompt writing is simple. The Kitcheners who have joined, write one or more lyrics or song/songs based or inspired on the prompt.

The prompt will be valid for two weeks. Each period will be hosted by a temporary host. During the last week of the two weeks' period, the host invites the next host and asks to post a new prompt. Please use PM, so that a graceful refusal is always possible in case it's not convenient for some reason.

A prompt can be most anything; we take it upon us to be considerate with the choice of the prompt.

When a prompt is posted, we can have complete freedom to react to that prompt.
At your choice:
Draft
Finished lyrics
Based on a free form
Based on rules that define a certain type of poetry
Without music, i.e. text only
With music as a complete song
Text only at first with music added later
Write a series of lyrics or complete songs to highlight different aspects of one prompt
Or just one
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.

In other words once every two weeks, we get writing about an starting point that was presented to us by one of our Kitcheners.
The idea behind it is that you use topics, you (normally) would not use. Not to get you out of your comfort zone but to diversify your work.

If you want to see how it works, we started only a couple of weeks ago:

https://www.songwriter-forum-kitchen.com/forum/songwriting-ingredients/26/prompt-writing-please-read-this-and-join-its-not-a-challenge/6455/

We donít criticize each otherís work, we only marvel at the possibilities one prompt gives us.

I would be very pleased if youíd decide to join us.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this.
Kind regards, Gus

Psychedelic? Yes, I think that no matter our intentions, most of us are playing the soundtrack of our youth in the end.
And I am certainly no exception to that.
I, too, am a man of simple pleasures, and of simple music.
Or better still, music in general.
Thank you for listening @man of simple pleasures !
I could certainly could do with a song of yours.
Kind regards, Gus

Purely and simply @man of simple pleasures and this is not THE truth. Having said that:
Inspiration is not like trouble. You donít have to look for trouble, trouble comes looking for you.
Inspiration is something else.
Iíve got friends who are photographers. If they donít grab a camera and climb on a bike, they wonít make photos.
Iíve got friend who are sculptors. They wait a bit for the stone to show them itís possibilities, and then they start hacking away.
Etc etc etc.
So it always struck me as very strange that we (composers) wait for a bit of godly breath and a gentle hand of god in our backs to support us along.
Look at the news and you see why god has other things on his mind right now.

Everybody whoís been in love knows what happy-hormones can do.
Making music or writing songs can produce happy-hormones too.
Every day I am at home, I go into my music room and every day I write a new song. The whole day is at the disposal of the missus and the children and who may think they need help with something. But from 6 to 7,30 pm is mine.

Your brain knows when to expect happy hormones. Youíll lose the fear of crappy songs, because no matter what, we all write crappy songs. And the good ones are buried under the crappy ones.
Write 10 in as many days and youíll have 3 good ones.
You should give it a try.
Look at toddlers walking. Walking is difficult. We walk, donít step in the dog shit, look at eye candy along the way and have time to keep a conversation going.
Doing it everyday makes things look dead easy.
Writing is no exception.

Everyday a bit too much?
Have a look at the prompt writing thread. Guaranteed for you to chuckle and guaranteed for you to think: hey, I can do that too. Yes, because you can.

And last: record every single tune you think up.
You never know, you know....
Really think you should give it a try. Talented enough...
Kind regards, Gus

I'm not with Vodafone either. I will call you after 10 to discuss joining in with this prompt writing  idea.

Seriously - some very interesting lyrics from this prompt. And I liked your discussion of inspiration versus regular songwriting hours. I find  I write when I am given time limits and/or restrictions as to what I should be writing about.

Cheers!
Today I'm only one day older. Do you think my hair's turned grey?

Great that you took the time to have a peek into this.
I personally am in no way lacking material or inspiration, and I feel blessed for it.
Having said that, I welcome reasons to write about things I wouldnít normally think of and Prompt Writing is such a very playful and light way to do that.

I hope you consider joining one day!
Kind regards, Gus

Do you mean me @LePlongeur ? This part isn't about me is it?   :D
No it can't be.  :) I believed you the whole time.  ;D

This melody sounds very much like an American ( African/American ) folksong.
Very good!
I especially like the chorus outro!

Hola Gus,
thank you very much for your explanation. I think it's a very good idea but at the moment I feel me confused, unable to concentrate on anything more that takes me off from rutina, and when I reach to do something I have had to put a lot of effort.
My rutine is to contonue making songs, something that grabs me to reason, a system that works by itself, write the lyrics, look for the pieces of the background I have to construct, sing the song, make the final arrangement and produce the vid, a chain of movements that I do slowly like a zombie, lack of energy
Sure that I am the result of my health and of what is happening to the world... But, sure too I'll be recovered to mysel some day,

CuŪdate @LePlongeur
