New Song: Tame Monster
on: April 27, 2019, 18:51:13
Hello everyone! I'm a songwriter from London. It's been a while since I've posted here but I've got a new song up which I would be super appreciative to get some thoughts on, and a couple of other more recent ones if you decide you'd like to hear more :) Have another one on the way which I'll be uploading over the next few days hopefully.

Particularly interested to hear what people think of the mix/master - I put an analogue/tape feeling on the master track to fill the sound out. I think some intricacies are lost a bit but I quite like how warm it sounds. Any and all feedback welcome! Thank you so much in advance.

have you seen the morning looking
dark as day light stolen back
its borrowed anyway go on
look out

cos every single loving creature
only gets their way tearing everybody
inside out oh go on
get out

traced in only white i know its fading
already
taste invisible and always baiting
your hatred

have you seen the morning looking
dark as day light stolen back
its borrowed anyway go on
look out

cos every single loving creature
only gets their way tearing everybody
inside out oh go on
get out

Tame Monster is sleeping now don't hate it
don't wake it
Traced in only white I know it's faded
it's faded

I like this @jamesforster and it has a mellow sound for sure. A nice warmth that is pleasing.

I wonder if you need to raise the volume of the main Vox or better still add a bit more top to the lead vocal so it pokes out more.
Otherwise you have the danger of losing intelligibility and the story is lost.

outstanding acoustic guitar playing, is there a  chorus effect?
Extraordinary lyrics, specially liking

"taste invisible and always baiting
your hatred

have you seen the morning looking
dark as day light stolen back"

and the chord change that occurs there.
Very original song.
Some EQ-ing / filtering might make the vocal a bit more precise, as suggested by @MrBouzouki . Comparing it to Growing Pain, on your stream, I would lower - EQ the vocals there much more than in Tame Monster.
But those are realy mixing details, and take nothing away from the fact that both are very well written songs.
Cheers

Beautiful song and a very warm recording. I love these vocals harmonies and the wonderful guitar work.

Since you asked about the mix, one thing that catches my attention is that in some of the guitar passages that first low note is a bit too loud. If I had the mix in front of me I would go through and very carefully automate that note down a bit each time it grabbed my attention like that.

The master might benefit from a cut in the 200 Hz to 400 Hz range for a bit more clarity.....or....perhaps just the guitar. Try the guitar first as that might bring the vocals out more as @MrBouzouki and @oorlab suggested.

I was warned that, while typing  this one, somebody jumped queues.  And guess what. I donít have to tell you about the resonance in one of the lower strings anymore.
Since I believe that the voices are merely instruments and that they should not be too present in the mix, I shyly contradict a few of the wiser people around here.

I love it very very much.
Dr Cortex takes about a lush moment. Not knowing what lush means in this context, I agree with him/her that these are a couple of the best seconds of the song.

I sneak back to secretly listen again.
Kind regards, Gus

I find it a really nice music to listen to and that can also generate almost preconceived images, thanks to the island's timbre of the instruments.
Very good work  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

I enjoyed very much your song, very much it is very intimate, personal... Wonderful lyrics too. Maybe the guitar, at some moments, sounds loud when playing low strings... but... nothing important.. and your voice sounds so warm.
This style goes very well to your voice and your way of composing.  I really find it is a very good song.  ::thumb:: ::thumb::

@jamesforster I really like your voice and how the song stands strong without over-production. I love the harmonies! I recently was asking about harmonies here, and your song is a great one to listen to and sort of "study" for those reasons, but it's a great unique sound/song.   ;D

Very nice @jamesforster

A lot of good comments already, I just want to add how much I liked the acoustic picking and the vocal harmonies.
