New Song - The Sky Is My Best Friend

Although I live in England, for many years now I have been interested in Native American culture, particularly their reverence for nature and their ancestors. The lyrics of this song are therefore based on writings and speeches made by them over the years which I have read in various books so they are their words rather than mine. I have had to adjust the words to suit the rhythm and meter of the song but hopefully have stayed faithful to their original meaning. You can find the song at:-

Nice job @Urban Tumbleweed ! I'm no music critic.....so I'll just say I listened and liked.  :)

I like it. That recurring guitar riff definitely sets the tone. I like that little lead break at around 2:12.

Love to see the lyrics for this one.
"The main thing is to have a gutsy approach....but use your head." Julia Child

"In a world of robotic conformity, the only originality left in music is the imperfections" Eric Craptone

"Special thanks to Steve Gleason for making me who I am today." Leonard Scaper

Urban Tumbleweed  - This is a very good song. Just a couple suggestions - hang on that last note in "clears the air" at 0:54 and let it fade a bit. Same thing for some of the other final notes in phrases "the sky is my best friend" at 1:09. I think it would add a bit of emphasis to the end of the phrase. You have a very good rhythmic sense and timing on the vocals that go really well with the guitar and percussion - I think just a *hint* more of variation in the length of the notes on vocals could add something. For example in "the earth beneath my skin" that sounded more like what I am talking about.

The other thing you could *try* is to add a bit of grit or weight to your voice toward the last segment of the song, first to provide some variety, but also to give it a little kick at the end.

In any case, great song - love the guitars!

From what I know of it, youve succeeded remarkably well.
If you're interested in their heritage, perhaps it's a good idea to establish contact with them in one way or another. You'll find them very kind and patient.
They don't just say the words, but live the words.
My contacts are very old (1969/70) and of no use to you, but I'm sure that given your interests your efforts will be succesfull.
My guess? They will be exited by this song. Not only the words, but the strcture as well.

I would be proud to have made a song like this.
Kind regards, Gus

Nice user of stereo at the beginning and good guitar chops again. I like the riff at 0;19, nothing flash but effective as all good riffs are
I agree with @EdZ314 regarding hanging over on  "In the ai____________r"

In my head I can a hear a harmony stack of several voices on "The Sky is My Best Friend". It would really punch home the title of the song and give a tribal feel to the track.

On repeated listening that riff is REALLY catchy. I'm going to be humming it all night now ;-P

Good Work

@Urban Tumbleweed Very cool song Urban! I love the guitars and the rhythm is so catchy for the main guitar part, and your arrangement of them, esp. around 2:10, and cool guitar solo that follows, esp the way you processed it to get that sound! Great job!
