On this Planet - coincidental song
on: January 12, 2020, 21:58:56
https://soundcloud.com/oorlab/on-this-planet/s-cp09D
featuring Progrockdan1 who has been a steady collaborator throughout the years on soundcloud. This song started out when testing a new piano VST called VSUpright_v164B from Versilian Studio : https://vis.versilstudios.com/upright-1.html
I added some Chinese poetry, and a bit of shortwave radio from this online website where you can listen to actual online shortwave frequencies
http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/.
At that moment there was not any idea to make it into a song, but the coincidental combination of the Chinese poetry and shortwave led to the scifi idea. Comments welcome, open for suggestions.

On this planet
I sing my song,
The mighty, the strong
have fallen.

The signal is faint,
the storm has passed,
my thoughts are with friends
left behind.

Ooh this sun,
shining on me.

It was not I
but my robot's that's gone,
Wasted by the impact.
I pray this message
Will find its way
across this lonely Milky Way.

Ooh this star,
radiating on me.

I remember the day I was free
of the pull of this never ending gravity

What say you?
Can we go back again,
and start a-new,
this mission impossible?

What a cool avant garde piece!!!

Really fine sounding vocals on this one. I need to listen more before saying more.......

"In a world of robotic conformity, the only originality left in music is the imperfections" Eric Craptone

"Special thanks to Steve Gleason for making me who I am today." Leonard Scaper

FASCINATING! Great lyrics. Art.
If you dig it, do it. If you dig it a lot, do it twice (Jim Croce).

Hola @oorlab

At first the voice of the Chinese poet has surprised me, I had never heard a Chinese poet reciting ... That is why I was shocked but there were times when it seemed that it was in the same tempo as the pianillo / marimba ?  If you put delay to the keyboard / marimba? be fore your voice comes so that it doesn't end so suddenly...

I liked the FX you've put to the voice before yours appeared.

The lyrics portray a unique moment for the protagonist, I like this
"I remember the day I was free
of the pull of this never ending gravity"

I also like the end, your questions.

Merci @Mora Amaro La Loba  - will try your suggestion with the delay. You can hear poetry read in Chinese and other languages on Librivox.org - long running volunteer project and Creative Commons .

It may be a matter of taste, but I really think that this is one of your best. Maybe your best.
Yes, I think so.

I’ll be back to listen to the poetry thingy, as I am traveling now and want to safe on communication.
But this was very worthwhile.
Great piece of work @oorlab !
Kind regards, Gus

A very interesting and original piece of work. Loved the use of sound-effects and poetry.

Dick, it has taken me quite a while to figure out how to leave a message,  New to this site and trying to figure it out.  It seems quite odd that I have to answer 4 questions to send this message.

Thanks @ProgRockDan  , @redmando @LePlongeur @Mora Amaro La Loba @Charlie  @Leonard Scaper

Following Mora's advice I made a new version, with a short delayed piano just before the singing starts. And I made a clip

jeeeeh    what a great project @oorlab and @ProgRockDan  ::headphone:: ::headphone::

oh, those radio sounds fit so well to the relaxing music, oh i think this very pretty and special  ::headphone:: ::headphone::

i did have one thingy, not sure about it nut, to me it sounded like the vocals, main vocal was a bit bit loud towards the right field of the stereo spectrum, loud on my right ear
i felt like there was space in the mix in left side of the stereo for the vocal

if that makes any sense  ::) ::) :-X :-X :-X

fantastic this!!!

@Dutchbeat  - thanks - will check that panning right away, the vocals is recorded mono and meant to be in the middle... but who knows what knob I touced unwittingly  :pompom:
glad you liked the shortwave radio. I recorded it from this online receiver from the University of Twente  http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/. - fascinating to scan these airwaves - I guess it works as ASMR.

The beginning feels a little random.  The song seems to really start at 30 seconds in.  I am not sure how the intro relates to what follows?   Then there seems to be an extended fade out starting at 2:40 minutes.
