Out Of Here

« Last Edit: May 28, 2020, 23:43:09 by Zedd »
Hi all,

A new one from me. An ambitious mix by my standards and I'm sure I still have work to do - so please all feedback welcome on any and all aspects of song and production..

I haven't mixed more than a 1+1 for a while so this was a little challenging but as always, @Jambrains was game for a bit of patient coaching in the background and helped me out of some very deep mixing holes! A star is that man..  ;D ;D

Anyway - this is my lockdown song..

Out of Here

https://soundcloud.com/monnodb/out-of-here

I can't bear it
This feeling tugging at me
I swear it's coming out of nowhere
Now it's swirling, curling 'round my sanity
You hold me to calm me 'cos I'm gasping for air

We gotta get out of here
Gotta run, gotta jump, gotta land right
And then I know we'll be alright
We gotta get out of here
Gotta run through open spaces
With no familiar faces
Just you and me

I can't take it
Cant' take any more fear
It's pouring through my body like rain
My reserves are depleted
I'm weak and I'm needy
You want me to believe that I'm not going insane

We gotta get out of here
Gotta run, gotta jump, gotta land right
And then I know we'll be alright
We gotta get out of here
Gotta run through open spaces
With no familiar faces
Just you and me

No more isolation
These walls are crashing in on me
The lights are flashing, blinding me
You're my inspiration
You see in me what I don't see
You bolster me
Cos you believe in me

We gotta get out of here
Gotta run, gotta jump, gotta land right
And then I know we'll be alright
We gotta get out of here
Gotta run through open spaces
With no familiar faces
Just you and me

Lots of tension comes through on the verses @Zedd , resolving into those nice skipping vocal phrases on the chorus.
I connected with the lyrics right away  and was humming along by the end.
Your vocal delivery is unmistakable and I like it.
Adventurous, yes, but tastefully done. The only thought on improvement I had was on the  "no more isolation" passage where the strings ( could be a synth) used in other places  might emphasise the drama.
One of the best pandemic songs out there- well done ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

I did a self imposed isolation song really early. Or maybe I did two.
And to write one two months later (with more desperation) would feel like cheating.
So I am really glad that you did one and avoided all the drama etc.

When I listen to yours @Zedd , I simply know that there’s hope for us. All of us I mean.
Gotta run, gotta jump, gotta land right. What a lovely way to anchor it in my brain.
Kind regards, Gus

Great piece of music @Zedd !! That first chorus comes in perfectly.....I love what you are doing with your vocals these days.

Drums sound great as well. In fact I love how that first crash cymbal comes in and grabs the listener by the ears to demand attention. It is just right in the mix.

Good lock down song indeed.

This is a very funny thing.
I almost wrote ‘grab the wolves by the ears’, as a way to describe that somebody does a near impossible job. And I am not a 100% sure about the origins of this expression. Middle or Eastern European any way. And after I typed it I erased it as too outlandish.

So, you are right. It’s easier to grab me by the ears, but it take a lot of workwomanship to actually do it.
I can only hope it makes some sense @Leonard Scaper and @Zedd..
Grabbingness is devlopping and vocals even more so.

A fantastic piece of music!
Kind regards, Gus

Thank you @Lane  - stay safe too!

@LePlongeur - thanks so much for lovely posts and comments.. Grabbiness should don't be underrated and I'm so totally delighted that it grabbed you... and that the lyrics resonated.. :) THANK YOU!!

@Leonard Scaper - thanks so much..such lovely comments.. I actually replaced that first crash with a wash.... cos I couldn't get to the point that I was completely happy with it.. although I was close!! Thanks for your steers and guidance..

@robertkc thanks so much.. I'll have a look at that suggestion with your comments in mind.. Thanks SO much for taking the time..

Hola @Zedd
I thought that I had already commented something in your song, well, things of the absent-mindedness. I really liked your song, the intro is great, it prepares you... the style fits very well by the ears and I love the lyrics. What a beautiful voice.

Hey Karen @Zedd ......nice move with that cymbal replacement. I like how that revised intro works as well.

This is a great song. I appreciate it more with each listen.

I think you should start the chorus with an Am chord instead of an F.  You could do two beats on AM and then go to F, that would work with the melody very well, but I personally would just do Am.
I work on Protools, was a pro recording engineer for 10 years in analog. I play compose, perform record and mix everything in my recordings.
