Some of you may be offended when they read - or when they are the target of - these lyrics, and they should be. Lately, I have been terrorised too much by amateur speed cyclists who try to pick my wheel when I am on my speed-pedelec. When I ask them politely not to do this, because it is very dangerous (I had in fact one who got a couple of ugly bruises and scratches when he (almost) crashed into me when I had to brake unexpectedly), most of them reluctantly pull back. But some of them just won't. Worse, they become offensive, they'll yell at me to keep on riding. They insist that I do their pacing for them, and that I shouldn't be so childish to interfer with their attempt to feel like Tom Dumoulin.

Sorry fellows. If you want to break your bones, or if you prefer a steer in your buttocks, don't involve me in your attempts to do so.

Very cool tune!! There is SO much going on here between the kind of syncopated rhythm that is one of your hallmarks, the barely bridled edginess of your vocal delivery and the musical arrangement.....not to mention all the acoustical candy throughout.

This while thing REALLY works! I am, however, wondering about that little disconnected intro. There are also a couple of places where your vocals wander of to the right in the mix.....is that intentional?

I really want to see the lyrics....especially that chorus.

Here are the lyrics from SoundCloud @Leonard Scaper

Pen Heads

This may be a pleasant road
This may look like a mellow sun
With the trees on my sides
Flash- flash- flash-
In an acceptable wind
Waving

But Iíve been here before
And I know where the turns take
I know where the roads bend
Or
Where they threaten to stop

A light could be red for a minute
Which is just enough time
For marker pen heads
To spot where I am
And ogle my yellow tag license plate
To sink their teeth in my duff

And when they buzz down
Like Stukas on innocent, like
Bloodthirsty horseflies
what can I do?

Iíve always been careful
To brake against showdowns
And keep at a distance
Tap- tap- tap-
Slowing down safely
When thereís pen heads
In front of me

But Iíve been there before
And the streets can be funnels
With pens in-the-waiting
Horny
For someone to ride on.

Now my mood has been scarred
After friendly endeavours
To keep them at bay
In vain
There is even a case of a pen lashing out
Bluntly accosting me
For afflicting the speed
On the app on his phone
"Love and Life is all about connections"

In my innocence @Pleudoniem , I had no idea what you were talking about until I consulted Wikipedia.

Having filled myself in, I can imagine how infuriating it must be and your lyrical outpouring is completely justified in my opinion.

Perhaps you need some Ben Hur extensions to your 'chariot' ? Only Joking ... they are idiots and you are being a sensible road user.

Musically it is interesting. I think the intro works but maybe repeated twice with no pause before the main songs starts.  I really like the musical support of the when they buzz down lyric, that really works.

Good Job and Stay Cool

@Leonard Scaper Wander off from the middle? I don't hear any such thing here in my mix. Can you be more exact as to where you hear that happening?

@MrBouzouki Ben Hur erm? That gives me an idea. Let's see if I have enough petrol and spikes in the house. But if everything else fails, I can always resort to winegums... >:D

fantastic track @Pleudoniem  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::
i love the various sounds and timbres you can put in your vocals, and the fxs you use to accentuate these singing styles
you are really angry about this problem  >:( >:( >:(....of cyclists who "take the wheel" of other cyclists and  mopeds etc.

this IS indeed a huge issue in the Netherlands and Belgium  >:( >:( >:(

good that you address this injustice!!!

in the days i could cycle pretty fast....yes, this is a longgggg time ago   :shinyteeth: ....i also had those sticky cyclists.....the biggest annoyment ever...they stick like glue to you...

needless to say, the only thing you can do...is stop biking, just stop and look at them, they are gone in seconds ;D ;D ;D
or @Pleudoniem, an even better approach is.....to make it really ackward...just slow down a tiny bit....only to the point that they get annoyed...find that sweet spot where you reduce your speed just enough that they get insecure and annoyed because they prey on you....only because they think: that is just the perfect tempo to, as they say in Dutch cycling terms:  "in het wiel zitten" ["to sit in the wheel"]

you don't have look at them, just slow down that tiny bit that you can FEEL the unease of the person behind you  ;D ;D ;D ;D

now...what is he going to do then? (yes, it always a: He who does this)
what is going to do.... ;D ;D ;D at a certain point....he is going to pass you, after you so very gentle, almost unnoticable....reduced your speed..only by a few kilometers per hour..

Needless to say....that is the MOMENT, when He passes you....to use all power, both physical an electrical  ;D ;D ;D ;D...to try to "catch their wheel"    and hang into it as long as you can  :shinyteeth: :shinyteeth:

no need to thank for this advise @Pleudoniem ...
unless you want to reward it with a bag of wine gums  ;D ;D ;D

great song Pleudoniem

@Dutchbeat Ah yes. I've tried all that. Your proposals are logical and in some cases they indeed appear to work. The trouble is that some just get angry at you for slowing down. And I don't want to have to stop too many times when I'm on my way to work.

Worse, less than a week ago, I got involved in a violent on-bike discussion with a cyclist whose head was turning red with anger, because I decided to slow down to shake him off. I was unable to speed away, because he managed to speed up as well, and then suck my tail again - at 5cms from my rear wheel. He just kept doing this, being a great pest. He started cursing at me, called me an unreasonable dick, and that he had the right to hang on, because he had a right to the road just like I had. So who was I to kill his tempo? He kept cycling very close to me for more than 5kms, just being a rotten egg on my side, complaining, cursing at me. And I kept trying to shake him loose.

Still, I prefer to keep using the pedelec, because working out is good for my health, and it is quicker than public transport. I am very careful to stay a responsible rider though.

ok @Pleudoniem...i see you have tried all that...
you may need more advanced techniques ...have you heard about ..."op de kant zetten"?

you can use this to make sure he has no advantage of his shameless biking behavior anymore, it may involve riding on the wrong side of the road, but it is well worth it...

here is a quick definition and guide to how it works  ;D ;D ;D ;D

try it  ;D ;D ;D ;D

This work for my taste is totally strange and psychedelic and borders on the provocative ...
It reminds me of the last discs of King Crimson in which they had music with this madness.
I love Jaco Pastorius style bass.
To the soloist voice a little more reverb would have been good in the mix, the drummer should have been stronger in the mix and the bass a bit too.
In short a great work super modern
Congratulations  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

@Marcus Nalgaber Ironically, I turned the bass and the drums a bit down, and I killed the reverb in the voice as I thought they were a bit too much. If I crank them up, they may push away the other instruments. I could tinker a bit with the drums though, and see if I can make them punch a little more. There are many types of reverb, and I could try out a different one to see if I can nod at your comment.

Crimson have been a great inspiration indeed. This song wasn't written to provoke, but in self-defence.

Possibly you need to listen to it a couple of times. I still need to hear the first Crimson song that you are really into on the first listen :)

Sure I can...... :). It's kind of a gentle wavering. 1:23, 2:56, 3:17. At 3:39  (What can I do) it goes from "I" shaded right to "do" shaded left. It's definitely there in my best studio headphones. It sounds kind of cool......I like it.

@Leonard Scaper It may be the effect I put on it. As you can hear, it is effected. If you like it, if it is not disturbing, then I guess I sould keep it in.

I am fascinated by @Marcus Nalgaber 's remark about the song being provocative. The lyrics are not quite friendly indeed, so there was an edgy intention, but the fact that he felt it is great.

I'd definitely keep it as it is. As I listen once more I can really hear that effect throughout very subtly and it really works with all the other cool ways that you subtly introduce motion into the song. I say....nice job all around with that.

nice provocative agressive feel in this track @Pleudoniem. You seem to have lots of adventures on your bike. "Picking your wheel... " - does not seem a nice thing to be experiencing from others.
Safe riding!
