This song is may be 80% finished - still thinking about playing bass, and possibly changing the lyrics here and there. Inspiration came from the opening line that I read in an article  I read last week in the Rolling Stone or Wired.

Prepperland

D                  D6
Ronnie is selling
Fmaj7                       Bb
High-end fall out shelters.
D                               D6
Liberals taking control,
Fmaj7                           Bb
The Union's falling apart.
D                  F
Everyone hiding in their hole
Bb                  A7
Powergrid failing.

Em                                            Gm
I'm looking through the keyhole,
A                                                 D     C
to what's happening in Prepperland.
Em                                Gm
I counted on your sanity
A                                      D   C
but I admit I don't understand
                    Bm         C
How this got so out of hand.

All of the pharmacies
got robbed in the night.
And all of this civilization
That we held so dear,
is bound to disappear:
Here come the robots!

chorus

Ronnie is praying
that his kids will be okay,
Fires are raging
in the forests along the way.
Refugees waiting in line
to take that jump,
from the cliff.

Chorus

Great inspiration for a song @oorlab - I love hearing about such triggers :-). And it has inspired an intriguing set of lyrics. I love the kind of folky feel to this and the build into the chorus works really well. Melody is particularly strong. I really like the chorus. Fine work, sir!

Very nice singing melody  ::thumb::, and great lyrics, strange how such a weird subject is becoming so....normal...in such a short time

indeed "its hard to understand, how this got so out of hand"

i like your new track a lot @oorlab      ::headphone:: ::headphone:: ::headphone::

Oh @oorlab  . such an apocalyptically pleasant song!  ;)
Once again you've managed to take my darkest fears and turn them into a smooth, soulfully melodic jam. I'd say good but not really. This is kind of scary. Maybe in good way?  :)

Hi @oorlab
Deep and hard song... You have reached to give a sweet touch to so heavy story.

I loved this:

"Fires are raging
in the forests along the way.
Refugees waiting in line
to take that jump,
from the cliff."
I did not know that to live I had to die so many times

Very moving chord changes and super cool sound overall.

Thanks @IsleofSkye   - I added the chords, I think the E - Gm change caught my ear when I stumbled upon it so I kept it for the chorus.
merci @Mora Amaro La Loba  - will keep that part of the lyrics. At first I was thinking that actually mentioning refugees was may be too literal.
@Bill from November Sound  - I hope so - that putting our fears & worries in songs give us some relief.
Thanks @Dutchbeat for your kind words. Let's hope the Apocalypse will not become normal... but apparantly we live in such times.

@Zedd Cheers  - the trigger was the opening line that I picked up from a magazine article a few days ago - I will try to trace it. It gave me the impression of a sort of funnt desciption of the apocalypse.

@oorlab I like your development of the opening line- very relevant,a bit scary, and still surprising as a song subject.
Uptodate and very engaging folk ::thumb:: ::thumb::
Lyrically I might change the chorus to simply

I`m looking through the keyhole
into Prepperland

very cool chord sequence and a strong melody
Low end seems to be fuller when the piano comes in.

@robertkc  - thanks, that is a good suggestion for the chorus.  Keep it simple. The extra lines don't really mean too much in it self...
I will try out some bass, to hear how the low end will behave then.

I really like the progression of the chorus and how the performance of it moves the song forward.

Hi @oorlab

I got a Steely Dan, Beatles and after reading @redmando comment - I can also hear Bowie as well.

Your voice is really good on this - you've created a strong melody and I also like the background vocals pushed back like they are - very subtle.

I think a bass will be good - just something simple.

Powerful and dramatic lyrics as well.

cheers

@Mo,  - cheers & thanks. @redmando   - that'd be ultra cool to hear you do that :-)
@robertkc  - just uploaded a new version that has the simpler chorus from the start, and bass added. Many thanks for listening & the suggestions.

Do finish this song @oorlab !!!

I liked it already in the beginning of the first line of the lyrics, and then it just grows huge by the Chorus...  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

It also has a certain kind of retro-feel to it and stunning chord-progressions too....!

Looking forward to hearing it in full arrangement, however it works just as well as is. That's the beauty of a good song, the arrangement is an added bonus.  ::dj::
