Pyschopathic Tendencies
on: December 30, 2019, 04:54:42
G'day all,

I've came up with a new song that I'm going to try with a new band. It's a band made up of people I've played with in other bands and it's side project to my main band (Driving South).

We're not sure what type of songs we'll do yet - but I've created a demo of this new song to see what the others think.

It's a garageband song with a garageband drummer - no bass and all very basic.

So... what I'd like from anyone is feedback around the song structure. I don't like to do long songs so I try and cram what my idea is into a song that's as close to 3 mins as possible. This one is 2.40 so nice and short!

The solo might be too long?

Does it need a bridge?

The song is at https://soundcloud.com/jurgen-joarder/psychopathic-tendencies/s-HPxFn

The words are:

You fake that empathy
and you've learned your emotions
Fein interest in what we do
It's just your self promotion

You say you've no secrets
'Cept the ones that you keep
you drag us down, you pull us down
Till we're in too deep

chorus
Psychopathic tendencies

Talk but never listen
Others bore you
Talk over, talk down to
No one can ignore you

You desire conflict
Your words are a threat
You push you prod with mental battles
every chance you get

chorus
Psychopathic tendencies
Psychopathic tendencies

Cool guitar - surf / new wave in the mix @Jurgen
The structure sounds good to me. My advise would be to add an extra line in the Chorus, for remembrance - and novelty
like
Psychopathic tendencies
You are your own enemy

or something similar and have that sung by all band members.
Hit guaranteed :-)

Great guitar work in this....especially that solo. It's going to sound fantastic live!!

I actually really like the chorus with just those two limes like that. Be cool to hear it both ways, though.

I think it is the perfect length and the way you end it is just right as well.

I find this style is good for you and your band, it has something people like and feel. The bridge? I think it is not necessary, the instrumental part works as it and the solo guitar is not long.
About the lyrics, they are abstract but can be applied to many actions and people.

I also like the guitar work very much! The lyrics are absolutely contemporary stuff that points to a topic more and more people struggle with. Would be cool if you would evolve this song further, I look forward

That's an interest comment re: the chorus @oorlab  - I had a longer chorus that went

Psychopathic tendencies
Psychopathic tendencies
You pontificate, dominate
Put yourself centre stage
More than expectancy
We'll pay the penalty

which I thought went on too long - but maybe I should look at have it slightly longer - maybe something like

Psychopathic tendencies
Psychopathic tendencies
You pontificate
You dominate
Put yourself centre stage

I'll work on it before we rehearse it as a band in a couple of weeks.

Thanks also for your comments @Leonard Scaper@Mora Amaro La Loba and @Mo  - especially re the guitar - I've been gravitating more and more towards this sort of rockabilly style solo - double stops etc. rather than a scale type approach and I think it's suits me and the songs. Plus they're fun to do!

cheers

....just chiming back in to say that it really comes across that you are enjoying playing that guitar on this one.
