I wrote this song in 2007, and when I found it in my archive, I thought it deserved to be remastered, if only because it deals with a topic that has been quite recurrent. Another reason is that I have promised myself to remaster anything older than 5 years that people appear to play again on my SoundCloud page, if I can still find the master files. So, here it is.

style: jazzrock/fusion

To Pissarro (Impressionist Heart)

Every clot an inch
Of the smoke from the boat
That might have been there
Cutting through the water
When you thought it was a gem
The golden iron
Wiping can undance us to the shore

I wonder what went through your mind
When you were sitting there
Giving colours to the sky
Adding drops
To the waves
Brushing up the banks of the sea

The irony of knowing
That it must have taken hours
Full of well meant intent
When I can feel the grass
And taste a hand of soot
In the hasty dying second
Browsing through the pictures
On the Internet

Would it hurt your soul if you knew
I could pass you by quite unnoticed
Inflation makes too many of you
Or would it please your impressionist heart

Please your impressionist heart
Please your impressionist heart
Please your impressionist heart

Nice bass lines @Pleudoniem
Is this Ďschoolí of painting something that you like a lot or better than other ideas about painting?

Anyway, I think itís lovely that you preserved your fingerprint in your music throughout this time.
Kind regards, Gus

@LePlongeur Thanks for listening :) You could hear it was David Bowie in whatever he did, despite his versatility. But please do inform me if I start becoming repetitive.

I am interested in art in the broadest sense of the word, especially painting, music, and literature/poetry. I used Pissarro here, because he painted many things, but hardly did any sea views, which makes it easy to overlook - overbrowse - paintings with this topic. That quite matched with what I wanted to get across.

I like this.  Gives me twinges of Ween's more eccentric stuff, while also giving me a Warren Zevon in a beret kind of feeling.  I can see why people still listen to it!

Cool @Pleudoniem  - I like this line a lot
Would it hurt your soul if you knew
I could pass you by quite unnoticed

If you still have the unmixed basic tracks you could find a trumpetplayer to play a real solo!

Listened to it again.
Repetitive? I donít think so.
Why is Dusty Springfield, Charles Aznavour, rod Stewart instantly recognisable? Because, I think, they bring an element of personal sound, phrasing and approach with them.
In my book, one canít do better than to reach this level of workmanship. Repetitive?
Leave the worrying to us I say!
A very fine piece of work @Pleudoniem
Kind regards, Gus

@LePlongeur Thank you. Good to hear that.

Sadly, I just watched a clip by UniversiteitvanNederland (Which is like a Dutch TED, but I think you know it), in which a researcher argues that intros and build-ups are disappearing from songs, as they need to capture a listener's attention within 30s, or they will skip to the next one. I think she is right, but it hurts. There are some really great intros out there that really deserve a listen. That fact that apparently people have become so impatient that they cannot bother to listen to songs (or for that effect other people) when they don't immediately grab their attention is a downright shame. It shallows the music, the way Nicholas Carr describes as a general effect of online information consumption.

@Pleudoniem  can you give a link to the TED talk? Possibly in the songwriters ingredients section  - would be nice to discuss further.

@oorlab It definitely is. It is in Dutch though. I'll post it in the ingredients section.
