“I Couldn’t Sleep (Down the River)”

I couldn’t sleep, it wouldn’t keep
I lie awake, bemoaned, the shattered, broken man
All I could be is the man that you see
Out from the corners of your restless, roaming eyes

And, as you send me down the river, with broken oars, holes in my sails,
You search the water’s edge, while I float away forever…
…on this raft of glass and nails

I couldn’t sleep, it wouldn’t keep
I lie awake, bemoaned, this lost and hopeless man
I couldn’t breathe, but I couldn’t leave
So, with a shove, you sent me down the river’s stream

And,
As you send me down the river, with broken oars, holes in my sails,
You search the water’s edge, while I float away forever…
…on this raft of glass and nails
…on this raft of glass and nails
I Know The Truth By My Struggle Against It

@IronKnee  - fine songwriting.
Liking the image of "raft of glass and nails"
Mixwise I sould offer the advice toe keep guitar and mix together in the mix - the first sounds a bit too reverby.

Hi oorlab.............thanks for listening and commenting. I rushed the mix to get it into a contest. It sounded fine in my rush. But I hear what you are saying, now. I hope the contest judges don't put too much emphasis on production skills ;-)

@IronKnee I really like this sound and the song. It's got a nice classic folk/rock feel to it also.
You can't go back. You can't stand still. If the thunder don't get you. The lightning will.

I don’t know if you were aware of the connection or not, but the fierce single slapback on the guitar used to be the Gordon Giltrap thing in the late 60’s.
Hardly no one does effects on acoustic guitars, so I think this is the way to grab their attention.
It did grab mine in any case.

It’s a love it or hate it thing.
I say, dare to stand out. A friend of mine has a belt full of pedals and effects for her trumpet. And she still gigs almost every night. In non corona times that is.
A courageous thing to do in short.
Kind regards, Gus
