Soothing Rain (5/4)
on: August 10, 2020, 23:46:56
« Last Edit: September 13, 2020, 11:33:56 by oorlab »
Stopped reading the thread on the next challenge, when somebody proposed to do one with a song in any time signature but 4/4. Then I went on vacation, came back, started to work on a song in 5/4, and then - read that the challenge was to be a waltz in ballroom fashion.
Here is my 5/4 piece - comments welcome.

Summersun is slowly rising
Across that fateful August sky
Sparrows & starlings flutter
and make a sound that seems to flash.

Remember Blind Pete from Regent
Just a whisper and you'll be there
In the days of travelling
I was waiting
For the soothing rain

Kind of sounds like a lopsided jazz waltz @oorlab  , very original and unusual, and I love it.

Ballroom is just a label @oorlab.
I had a fiend with one leg who could ballroom to 5/4, while I (two legs) couldn't get that done to 3/4 or 6/8.

It can also be a matter of point of hear/view, but could it be that you are beginning to sound like Robert Wyatt's brother?
In that case I would have to address you with You.

Robert sung the soundtrack of the year i was 17 and his 1969 Soft Machine in Paradiso gig was one of P's highlights.

Needless to say I love your waltz to pieces.
It gets harder and harder to chose who'll end up in what order.

See what a good vacation does for a Kitchener.
Kind regards, Gus

Ballroom is just a label @oorlab.
That is true!  I may well try my hand at a more ballroomy song yet...
Will bend my ears towards Robert Wyatt - heard him mention before but only have a vague idea of his music.
@Vince  - cheers ! glad you like it, lopsided waltz is a cool tag.

Yeah....lopsided waltz indeed.

I really like how you structured this one with just enough vocals to set up the rest of the song. Nice percussion as well.

Hola @oorlab

You have made a sweet  song and it is very well sung. I like the instrumentation too even though I would have put a little more reverb on it but you know it's a personal opinion, otherwise it's a beautiful song full of warm atmosphere and illusions in the rain. I enjoyed it. ::thumb::

Wow.
You’ve got that refinement, sophistication I only dream of Having.

I really liked the lyrics. I was drawn in.

These songs born of misunderstanding are often Terrible. Lol. This one Is exceptional.

Stunning

I was thinking
Neil young.
He’s very rarely been this good.
I mean that.

Thanks @rightly , your comment inspired me to make  the track public.

The refinement in this song is pure luck, though I admit I have some 'methods' to get lucky with musical ideas.
My recipe is to keep vigilant and catch ideas when they offer themselves.
Looking foreward hearing your music - Neil Young-inspired or other wise.

This is superb.  Love your vocals, the smooth mix and the way it builds.  The instrumental  middle is just me cup of tea.  You are one talented musician.

A very nice track. Great and intriguing lyrics (should I be worried that I do not have any recollection of blind Pete from Regent?🤪)

The music is just fab! Wish I had more to offer but just wanted to say great job.😄🎶👊🏻🎶
