Spies in the field

https://soundcloud.com/oorlab/spies-in-the-fields
This is a song about the mask or role of spy one can play. I tried to fit the lyrics to the music, instead of the other way around.

Spies in the field

You know the living light
of searching will be
keeping us from harm's way.
And so that we can know
the truth from lies.

Embers glowing getting dirty hands
While digging in the garden
tonight we are the spies
in the field.

I will help you out
with everything:
Show the way
to cross that mountain ridge.
In these times of framing spin,
looking for a view within.

Tonight
We will be the spies in the field
Tonight
We will be checking out the gist of it
Today
We will be going out and search a new light
a new light.

Search and rescue
on a secret trail:
whatever can be done
to get the message through.

Nice job with the lyrics and vocals....you fit them perfectly to the tone and tenor of the music.

@oorlab Very adventurous with lots of interesting sounds coming and going - mysterious indeed!
I like the melody too - unconventional works for the lyrics.
Love the bells, gongs and those harmony voices coming in after "a view within".

@Goatrelated  - ha - these lyrics are a bit experimental. Only the "Spies in the field" bit was planned - the rest sort of had to 'fit the groove'.
But it turned out okay I guess, I just made a video for it:

Thanks @robertkc - sounds coming and going, yes that is a cool description.
Merci @Dutchbeat and @Leonard Scaper  , always inspiring to read your comments. Looking forward hearing your new music.

I like this @oorlab -  some interesting, at times unsettling, sounds too. Was there some reverse guitar in there ?

A very original sound overall to my ears, almost a 'potpourri' of instruments.

I enjoyed this and could imagine it without Vox utilized in a Spy Thriller of similar with dialogue over the top

Good Job

@MrBouzouki  - hi Pete, - well spotted, at 1.13 there is some reversed guitar.

Yes, I will make an instrumental mix and if you or somebody else has an idea for a dialogue about a spy thriller - I'd be very much interested in trying something in that direction. I recently watched quite some Sherlock Holmes episodes and each time was struck by the brilliant music of David Arnold and Michael Price.  Specially the "Opening Titles" of the first series - goosebumps :  https://binged.it/2Lm6ZR0

Is it my imagination or are you taking more adventurous routes with every new song?
I really believe that this is so.
And I do admire you for it.
An impressive amalgam of loose sounds making sense.
Wish I could do this.
Kind regards, Gus

This is soooo strange!  I totally don't get this and still I sort of enjoyed it . I'm lost for words, dazed and confused even..

This is super!  The atmospheric choices are stunning..  Melodies are well-placed and give additional edge to the harmonic structure of the piece. The recording/engineering is really beautiful - love how clean and dynamic it is.  Your guitar playing is fantastic.  What do you use for drums on this?

There's one thing that I would try.. When I was listening on my studio monitors at a low volume (which is a trick I use for testing balance) your vocal seemed too low or thin.  I would consider maybe just a tad more compression on it - or probably better - pop in one of those pre-ampy saturation plugins and drive in some presence.  I don't know that it needs to be louder per se; in fact a little distortion might actually be appropriate for this one.

I'm impressed.  Congrats

Hi @oorlab

This totally works for me. And the video enhances my awe.

Very few songs make me think this hard (I love to think about songs). There's so much going on. And the video made it clearer that these were not just shots out of the dark.

Lot's of ways to interpret what you might be trying to say. Rich compost for further thinking. Somehow you make this all accessible.

I don't hear many other people doing what you're doing.  So please... keep doing what you're doing

Couldn't agree more.
Although 'spies' remind me of the 35 centimeter metal tooth pick where omnivores prick their meat on to be roasted or smoked.
I always thought that barbecue's a summer activity.

But i like the music very much.
It's absolutely true what you said @smajor. @oorlab, please remember what  smajor said. And what Curtis Mayfield said: Keep on keepin' on.
What a very nice peice of work this is.
Kind regards, Gus
