Steps - Collaboration
on: May 02, 2016, 09:25:17
Hi all,

@fischermans has collaborated with me to provide some great vocals for my song Steps - he's made a great difference to a song I wrote for my wife but could never get right with my own vocals.

I love what Fisch has done, he's re-interpretted my words and changed the style and phrasing of the vocals to make it completely new.

https://soundcloud.com/jurgen-joarder/steps

Lyrics

These muddy steps you take
When you started they were dry
You’ve been on this road so long
sometimes you don’t remember why

Will you love me
let it be true
Will you love me
I want to hear it from you

Searching hard for something
You've already found
Fears echo every step
and miss the sights all around

Will you love me
let it be true
will you love me
want to hear it from you

It's all I need to hear
Right now
x 2

That you do
That you do

These heavy step you take
remember back when they were light
it’s time to stop your searching
if what you have just feels right

So tell me you love me
tell me it's true
tell me you love me
Like I love you

Yes tell me you love me
tell me it's true
tell me you love me
Like I love you

cheers

Jurgen

yes that sounds nice! I am listening with decent headphones now, the bass sounds nice, the guitar sounds extremely nice
Fischermans is doing a good singing melody, very constrained, which works very well, i was hoping to go out on the volume at points further down on the song
but he did get me some of these goosebumps at points...nice!

what a great collab and layed-back - no worries - atmosphere in this track

i think it will even smoother with a tiny (extra?) tad of reverb on fish's voice
and i rread in an other thread, you received three vocal takes

i think in the choruses or at certain places, perhaps try what happens if you 'double' the vocals, add another bit from the other vocals???

and, all just meant as ideas...just thinking out loud....but i thought the song ended too abruptly for a song like this... and i wanted more... ;D ;D ;D (which is good sign) but i think a long fade out with first a repeat of a few of the vocal lines, just one or two, and then back to instrumental (into the fade out) would leave the listener much more with the super relaxed feeling that you put in this song

very nice
:db:

Love this guys! It's so interesting to hear the same song sung by someone different - it really brings a new flavour to it!

Well done to both of you.. great song and great version!

Thanks @it must be me, Dutchbeat? for your comments and suggestions. It's hard to know when a song is complete as there's always ways of improving it - but I also want to move on to the next one.

Perhaps that's what differentiates the amateur from the real singer songwriter - that attention to detail and always wanting to get the best product out there.

Thanks @Zedd - I think Fisch totally changed the feeling of this song - his version has more angst and melancholy to it and it's great to hear a different interpretation to the lyrics.

cheers

Jurgen

Hi Guys,

Very good work.

Fisch has stepped up to the plate and delivered here. Love the subdued style. It's somehow non-committal but with a degree of yearning. Cool mood.

The playing sits well - the acoustic like a slow Proud Mary, then this slight bluesy/jazzy guitar over the top.

Nice one.

Very nice! @fischermans, you gave the song a new colour, but the relaxed feel of the "original" version by @jurgen is still there. And not only in the (very well played) guitars. Great stuff, karma to both of you! ::headphone::
