Summer - Collaboration by Clyronite and Engild
on: August 17, 2020, 23:04:24
Hey guys, this is a summery love song set to great dance music and I'd enjoy receiving your feedback on it. Clyronite came up with the music and I created the lyrics and vocals; he actually decided to change his "sound" recently and so is focusing on that rather than doing any more work on this song, so for the music I'm limited to changes I can make using Audacity (e.g., bass & treble, volume, etc.).

This all adds up to an interesting and unique sound to my ears.  I listen to very little if any of this type of music, but I enjoyed listening to this one !

Hello, nice to discover you @Engild

I liked the song, the love and dance  mix is very well done, the melody is beautiful  although another treatment would have been good for the voice but this does not take away the color of the song n what you wanted to follow,

I would have liked to read the lyrics to understand the whole words.
I did not know that to live I had to die so many times

Thanks for that input, @Mora Amaro La Loba; when you suggested the vocals could use another treatment do you have an idea of what sort of treatment would make them better?
I've included the lyrics below as well--I understand some can be a bit hard to hear clearly!

-------Summer--------
Hearts under sun    0:45
Skin soaks it in
Right now we are one
As though we've always been--in Summer!
Summer!
Summer!
In Summer!
Summer!
Summer!
Summer!
In Summer!

Nights under moon     1:30
Bodies sway to beat
Come near me
I can feel your heat--in Summer!
Summer!
Summer!
Summer!

Love we might lose    2:01
But it is worth the chance
Hold me and I will choose
Choose your love's dance--in Summer!
Summer!
In Summer!
Summer [rising]

In Summer [rising]    3:30
Summer!
Summer!
Summer!
Summer!

Hi @Engild  @Clyronite

1st - let me say re: songwriting & collaboration
Really cool! I'm so happy this made it out of the collaborations section!  I like the track. I like the lyrics. I like the way it feels.
I hope kitcheners check some of your other stuff in the collaborations section and maybe get in touch with you guys.

2nd - re: production - audacity is tough to use IMO   :-\ .... I do think @oorlab  is an audacity master though.  ;)  Regarding the way the whole collab production is set up I think you can use EQ to scoop out the mids. Then lower the volume of the voice and raise the volume of the track to get it to gel a bit better. This way the voice will sit in that area of the mix that you pulled from the track.
Can you try some delay on the voice? I'm trying to think how I'd do that with audacity.... you gotta get the voice to sit in there more.

3rd - re: using the forum
When you want to answer someone or ask them another question it's really important to use our "mention system" . If I want to notify Mora that I'm talking to her  I type  @   then I start typing her name   @ M  O   R ......    and a pull down list appears. I then click @Mora Amaro La Loba  and ask what kind of vocal treatment should I use?

Anyway, you're well on your way! I'm glad this worked out. It's sounding really cool.

Thanks, @Bill from November Sound. I think I understand what you mean regarding the vocals treatment; just have to work out how to make it happen!

@Bill from November Sound  - @Engild
sounding good. The vocal reminds me of Mark Hollis...
Audacity is pretty easy for basic sound editing - DM  me if any questions

@oorlab Thanks for the feedback! Do you have any suggestions for how I could use Audacity to accomplish what Bill and Mora said could be improved, getting the vocals to gel with the music better?
I like your name, BTW ("ear lab" is a good way to describe a lot of music I listen to!).

@Engild - yes, (not knowing at this moment exactly what Bill & Mora said  or meant)  - but if you have the vocals separate from other instrument tracks - you can load them separately in audacity (via file> import) - give the vocal a bit of EQ, compression and leave it in the middle .

The tracks for the instruments you pan a bit, and give them slightly other EQ and reverb than the vocals. By experimenting and checking with headphones, you'll find a golden mean or sweet spot.

Tha'ts my personal recipy - I am pretty sure there are many other roads that lead to Rome.
Happy mixing!!
