'Sweet Tequila' - Layerson's Cats Song!

Well this one is just a kind of a fun song for me...

I know, in life, I more than occasionally make the wrong decisions and wrong choices, but you know what? I am sometimes tired of having to take the blame for stuff. Especially when I could easily lay the blame with someone else - or maybe something else. Seems fair! Desirable even.

And last week, on a bit of a holiday, I was having a nice drink or two. And then THE TRUTH came to me. And I wrote these lyrics, then a tune quickly followed, as if given to me by a spirit - literally! Hope you enjoy - especially the profound message contained within that I am effectively gving you for FREE!  And which could even change your life!  :o  :o  :o

Lyrics:

Sweet Tequila

Two cats in a bar drinking shots
Getting wasted, oh yeah
Two cats swear tequila's the best thing
They've ever tasted, oh yeah
It's their first date but they are married
By the end of the day
Wake up at noon in shock
Just one thing to say, oh yeah

It's all your fault
Sweet tequila
It's all your fault
Sweet tequila

Fat cat in a bar drinking shots
On business, oh yeah
Fat cat wants tequila to come and be
His secret mistress, oh yeah
Invincible, bets his house
On a stock market gain
Till left with jack, no shirt on his back
Just one thing to blame

RPT CHORUS

So raise your hands
If you can understand
We are the unfortunates
The strayed cats
And the damned

Sweet tequila
Stealer dealer

RPT CHORUS

It's all your fault
Stealer dealer
It's all your fault
Sweet tequila

I really love this side of your music. You can write songs that elicit the deepest and most pondersome thoughts....and then you can write this perfectly quirky number about Stealer Dealer Tequiler.

I love it.

Nice vocals again, btw. You have the lead in a very cool kind of higher frequency range that really works with the doubling and the harmonies.

Speaking of harmonies........nice ending.

thumbs up, - Tequila in the chorus works well. Cool vocals.
The music mix and the vocals sound a bit separated - but could easily be fixed.

Hello @MichaelA .

As the self-appointed worst reviewer around these parts I say the following:

1. This is actually a very cool song and it seems to have a bit more depth than your description suggested. Put forth in a good-natured way but with a certain dark undertone .. maybe enhanced by the airy synth lines and all.

2. Songs with Tequila in the title suggest, in my mind, Jimmy Buffet parrot head droning on and on and/or some guy dancing on his tippy toes to a honking raucous saxophone. Thankfully your music does nothing of the sort so congratulations!  :)

3. I like it. Good show!

Hello, hello @Leonard Scaper . @oorlab , @Bill from November Sound , @Dutchbeat and @Goatrelated - thanks for the listen and for these encouraging comments, which are all great to get for a song I wasn't at all sure about!

I have taken the vocals very slightly further back into the mix now and smoothed them out just a bit with EQ. But they are still a bit 'out there' and chaotic, which suits the song I think.

Cheers all and happy music making/listening!  ;)

(PS, @Bill from November Sound you're not the worst reviewer round here by any means! That honour would surely be like winning another competition - and you have won quite enough of those!  ;D  ;D  ;D Award hogger, you!  :loveit: )

And yes, good spot on the vocal @Leonard Scaper - I have the double up, second vocal set at a slightly higher frequency. Not really knowing what I am doing here always,  I was just messing about, and it seemed to work, adding separation and a bit of interest. Happy accident - but I think I may well use again. - They shouldn't give me all these buttons to fiddle with, for sure!  ;)

I knew it, on the edge of travelling (apple says traveling, Tamar says: Travelling souls from London) and when the mobile internet was at its worst, I wrote two posts to this one @MichaelA
My grandma couldnít wear watches. Every watch stopped after two days.
Perhaps some vibe from grandma prevents a stable connection.
I posted a radio jingle for Kitchen radio, but that one went off the digital foot path.

Apart from this looking like a sort of second hand reaction, I remember sincerely that I love the idea of blaming other people and things.
And  (if truth be told) thereís a slightly feminist angle to it. Believe it or not.
And I remember very well  asking you the following:
If we look at the differences between women and men, have you been waving your magic wand at this?

- women blame themselves
- men blame the whole world

I guessed that the re was a possibility that you poked fun at this (generalization, I admit) too.

Both musically and lyrics-wise, I felt generously treated. Like getting an extra large triangle of the birthday cake.
Hardly normal English I guess, but I think you know what I mean.

And danceble? Letís say more than before. But Iíve got a northern Western European wooden butt. So, would you like to see me dance???
Letís be gentle first and honest later?
Kind regards, Gus

Thanks Gus, @LePlongeur , sorry to hear about your internet problems. But I loved your triangle of birthday cake image. If everyone thought that about my songs I would have a happy audience, although a slightly overweight one to be fair! Who cares!  ;D

I agree about your point that women blame themselves more than men. Except in the instance of my wife, a woman who disproves your theory sadly, as she always blames me. But there are always exceptions to every rule of course.

But thank you for your words of encouragement here!  ::thumb::

I love the little riff that underpins this track.  It shows how simple arpeggios can really create a mood   ::smiley::
The hypnotic pulse of the music and beat draws you in and then you focus on the Vox and stay it throughout the song.
Nothing to distract from the message.

A good bit of work and it just shows how we might switch off from work but never from songwriting ;-)

Fun lyrics with some venom underneath I really enjoyed ( the blame game needing little fuel  to burn!).
I found the backing hypnotic and well  arranged.
Tops for me are your Lennon vocal tones... lots of the right attitude there for this song.

Yes @MrBouzouki , in fact you picked out the two elements which helped me construct the song, the riff in the verse and the arpeggio in the chorus. I don't know how you work, but I just put these in my recorder side by side and then worked on the Vox melody overlay, then everything else followed. I find this a preferable way of writing these days, after years of writing with an acoustic guitar on my lap, picking out chords and adding melody. Cheers for the comment.  :ok:

Thanks and nice to meet you @robertkc , my vocals aren't quite in Leonnon's class, but I did appreciate the kind comparison!  ;)

Thanks very much @Chris Spruit. I was very glad for you to hear that you have spent time in a U.K. pub. These are probably the best places our country has to offer!  ;D

Glad you liked the song!

Well @MichaelA ... maybe I did this is in the wrong order. I read the lyrics and then all the already posted reviews instead of going right to the song.  ???

From the title I was still pretty sure of how I thought it would sound...  I was so wrong and how good I was  ;)

The lyrics and the title where a perfect match with the song and the chorus really got me... very catchy. And, having three cats, I think they deserved a song about them... but I guess itís just slang and I got that too ;)

Everything else has already been covered.
