The caged bird
on: November 03, 2018, 18:38:55
Some months ago I collaborated with a talented songwriter n this was the result.
Her name is Farawaymylovely.
She wrote the words n music, and later sang the backing vocals.
I put into Cubase, sang the lead n produced it.
Collaboration went very well.

I hope someone enjoys it. Feedback would be very welcome.

The caged bird.

Through the bars the future looks so clear
She doesn't know there's a pane of glass in there
Seems like time may passes through like light
Maybe she soon will take a flight

But the caged bird can't fly
The caged bird only wonders why
The sun rises everyday
But still she can't fly away

In the dark the room becomes a maze
As shadows fall an unfamiliar gaze
He tried to save his morning dove
But he was trapped in his own cage of love

The caged bird can't fly
The caged bird only wonders why
The sun rises everyday
But still she can't fly away

Is a cruel world n so absurd
The caged bird, the caged bird

Through the bars the future looks so clear
Like time has stopped the hour the day the year
But cages can't hold in her songs of love
She songs to him he beats his morning dove

The caged bird will sing
Caged won't hold everything
Can't stop the future being bright
Can't stop her dreams of flight.

Very cool song. Excellent lyrics and I like how you handle the them especially that little extra bit of emotion at around 2:40. The backing track works well, although I might be looking for somewhere to cut at around 300 - 400 Hz to clear it up and let the vocal shine through better.

Farawaymylovely's backing vocals are just right....they add a sense of distance and mystery.

Thought your voice with the portamento style singing was unusual enough to be interesting. Yeah the lyric was good, I kept thinking of White Bird by It's A Beautiful Day, bloody 'ell that dates me!
Not sure about the music though, mate. It sounded a bit generic like one of those Casio organs on autoplay, maybe it was the way it was mixed.
Sure I've heard you before somewhere playing a guitar? You had a more distinctive sound.

agreed. Well sung, @Rightly,  and fine lyrics. I like the instrumentation, but agree with the casio comment about the drumsounds. Still, that can be a choice.

Thanks man. I'll look into that clearing up. These technical tips are always very welcome. I'm still green.
