The end, a beginning
on: September 03, 2014, 15:25:37
Hi, this is one of the first songs I wrote when I got my recording set up about 18 months ago. I'm quite pleased with the results despite knowing even less then than I know now about recording technique! I suppose it nods toward prog rock a little :o. Acoustic guitar song but backed up with lead guitar, synths, bass and drums. The effect on the voice was an accident, but I liked it so left it on.
Cheers
Jamie

Yep, that vocal effect works very well. This is nicely recorded and mixed with a good, direct arrangement. Your vocal is lovely. I would have liked some lyrics - it always helps me review when I can see it all laid out in front of me. I found myself drifting off in to a reverie when I listened to this which I would say is a compliment to the fact that you've managed to create a sonic landscape which works as a whole.

Nice track which is easy to like.

NICE!!!

it's got a nice-fool on the hill- vibe in the beginning chords of the track

and gets more psychadelic with the vocals

if this is one of your first recordings and are only at recording for 18 months...you must be mega talented

karma points incoming for this track!!!

Hi Alan, glad you liked the vocal,I thought the vocal effect added to the vibe I was trying to get to. Cool that you felt the reverie feel! I was trying to get that ethereal feel that Jon Anderson got on some of the mid era Yes songs
Cheers Alan, you are too kind!
Jamie

Hi DB, all karma points gladly accepted!thanks for your kind words. I can hear the fool on the hill thing now, it's the synth whistle effects I think! Yeah I got my recording gear in January last year and have been working away dutifully to try and capture some of the sounds I can hear in my head :o.
Cheers

Jamie, you saying that you have:

"been working away dutifully to try and capture some of the sounds I can hear in my head" [unquote]

tells me that you have been seriously captured by that songwritingvirus....

most of the time it is good, sometimes it can become a bit obsessive...but since you probably never can get rid of it anymore, better enjoy it to the maximum  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

that is what i do...

for about 35 years now  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi DB, LOL, yes I have been bitten by that bug ;D. I've only recently been able to devote my time to music, though I've always played and been a very keen music fan and went to many concerts over the years. I love working on songs, I can be immersed for hours and not even realise ???. My wife usually reminds me I've got other things to do too ::).maybe I'll be able to translate the sounds in my head in 35 years!
Cheers

Nice song Jamie and for the first try very good.I think the effect on the voice is not bad.If you use it more sparingly it would be better in my opinion.
Like this song.

  Hey Jamie,

Yeah....liked this ;D ;D  Nice progressions, and I like the effect on the vocals....glad you left it there ;D
A lot of it though ;D ;D think you could lose a couple of minutes......also thought the ending could be a
  bit more powerful.....was expecting a bigger/faster/fuller crescendo after such a long build ;D ;D

Nice feel, rolled along really well.  Reminded me of Barclay James Harvest a bit....a band from the 60's I liked ;D ;D

  Nice work Jamie......thanks ;D ;D
