The Harder We Hit
on: January 22, 2020, 21:15:43
This is an old song from 2016 that I decided to remix before putting it up on Spotify et al.
So, the song is what it is, I'm not going to touch it so basically no need to comment on those part (but you may of course do so should you be so inclined)
What I AM looking for is input on the mix. It's just a simple vox/acoustic number but turned out to be more difficult to get right than one wopuld expect.

First of all.....those are fantastic harmonies. My first reaction was that the guitar that starts it could be a bit stronger.

Good mix really though. It builds nicely and is nicely balanced. Listening in my office on Sony 7506 headphones.

Listening again and that early guitar still feels like it could be stronger.......a very minor nitpick. You really do build the energy in the mix very dynamically.

Thanks  @Leonard Scaper , exactly the kind of input I needed!  :-)

Hi @Jambrains here is a positive comment for you.

Vocally you can hear every word, it's quite a wordy storytelling song and the clarity of the vocal shines through. Even if I really turn it down on phones the Vox still pokes through.

The guitar is always playing a supporting role to the Vox, even when strumming come in. This same clarity exists in the vocally doubled parts, they add a shimmer to the Vox but don't make things muddy.

Ummmmm so perhaps I feel the guitar is balanced to the voice in the first part so maybe have a different take than @Leonard Scaper. It has a nice mellow feel dynamically but being softer perhaps.

Nice Job in my book.

It would be interesting to hear the original mix if that was possible to compare the two

I think I would agree with L. @Jambrains, if the outcome would be a more equal balance between picking and strumming. But please remember that I am one for the idea that the voice is an instrument and I like it a little bit sunk in the backing. So I would up the picking instead of lower the strumming.

All done with meat....
Whether that is true or a matter of speech doesn’t matter (for me). What I mean is that never before in NL there’s been a grow like in the past few years for food to be eaten instead of meat and fish.

You could be riding the Western European awareness that environmental issues are involved when eating meat and fish.
Quite an interesting development if you ask me. And even if you don’t (smiley).
Nice one. I really hope it’ll catch on.
Kind regards, Gus

I'm listening on an old laptop speaker, the mix is ok and the levels... I feel the guitar could do with a bit more body than volume. More lower frequencies, it's very sharp. It would widen out the song a bit to work on the sound of the guitar.

But overall a nice sounding song. Well done.
